1999 Nissan Altima P-1491 Fault: Vacuum Cut Bypass Valve Location and Repair Guide

Model: 1999 Nissan Altima Fault Code: P1491 Posted: 2009-04-04 10:25

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and hoping for some advice. My 1999 Nissan Altima has recently started displaying the P-1491 diagnostic code, which my scanner identifies as related to the vacuum cut bypass valve. I'd like to know if this issue can be resolved by a DIY repair, and what the typical cost of replacing the part is. Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I experienced the same P-1491 code on my 2001 Nissan Altima. At that time, my engine was running hot because I had installed an 180°F thermostat instead of the factory-recommended 170°F model. After switching back to the correct thermostat, the P-1491 code disappeared. This suggests a possible connection between overheating and vacuum system performance. The vacuum cut bypass valve is located underneath the vehicle, near the left rear corner, close to the carbon canister. If you're experiencing this issue, it might be worth checking for engine temperature abnormalities or vacuum line integrity. Let me know how your repair goes! - Rlbatez
