1999 Hyundai Elantra Check Engine Light & Transmission Codes PO732, PO734 - Help Needed!
I recently purchased a 1999 Hyundai Elantra and have been experiencing persistent check engine light issues. The vehicle previously showed codes PO442, PO747, and PO743. Yesterday, while driving from my driveway to work, the transmission behaved abnormally—shifting violently from 1st to 2nd gear with a loud 'bam' sound. I managed to reach AutoZone, where they suggested adding transmission fluid, but that did not resolve the issue. When attempting to reverse, the vehicle failed to move at all. After scanning with an OBD2 device at the auto parts store, the codes updated from PO747 and PO743 to PO732 and PO734. I am now concerned about whether this is related to a known transmission issue. I found that there was a recall on the Automatic Transmission Pressure Control Solenoid for certain 1999 Hyundai Elantra models—could this be the root cause of my shifting problems?
I recommend towing the vehicle to either the dealership to verify if any applicable recalls or Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) exist, or to a reputable transmission specialist. Also, check if there's still an active warranty from where you originally purchased the car.
