1999 Ford Contour P0190 P0300 P0113 - Car Dies on Acceleration After Fuel Pump Replacement

Model: 1999 Ford Contour Fault Code: P0113 Posted: 2012-04-08 05:38

Hello, I'm working on a 1999 Ford Contour that has been throwing trouble codes P0190, P0300, and P0113. The owner previously had a fuel filter replaced, and based on advice from a friend, I installed a new fuel pump. After the replacement, the car starts and runs initially, but when the gas pedal is pressed, it suddenly dies and will not restart. After clearing all codes, a new code P0113 (intake air temperature sensor circuit high) appeared. I'm a DIY enthusiast with limited technical training—any guidance on diagnosing or fixing these issues would be greatly appreciated?

The P0300 indicates a random misfire, which could stem from insufficient fuel in one cylinder. The P0190 points to an issue with the fuel pressure circuit, suggesting potential problems such as a faulty fuel pump or clogged fuel lines. The P0113 code relates to an excessively high intake air temperature sensor reading—this may occur if the sensor was not properly reinstalled in the air cleaner assembly or is incorrectly connected.

Thanks for the quick response. Specifically regarding P0190, this code typically indicates a problem with the fuel pressure circuit. Common causes include a failing fuel pump, leaking fuel pressure regulator, or an incorrect fuel pressure setting. Since you've already replaced the fuel pump, it's important to verify that the fuel pressure is within specifications using a gauge and check for leaks or proper wiring connections.
