P0305 Fault in 1999 Dodge Caravan 3.8L: Stumbles During Acceleration - Solutions & Diagnosis

Model: 1999 Dodge Caravan 3.8L Fault Code: P0305 Posted: 2007-11-22 01:19

The MIL light has been on for some time, and the diagnostic code consistently reads P0305. My 1999 Dodge Caravan 3.8L is at 32,000 miles. I replaced the spark plugs and ignition wires around 25,000 miles during a second serpentine belt tensioner replacement. Cylinder 5 is located on the rear bank of the engine, and I haven't had access to inspect the spark plug boot for proper seating. I’ve gathered replacement parts for plugs and wires, but I’m also considering fuel injection issues after reviewing online resources. This Grand Caravan 3.8L did not receive the original fuel rail recall, and it has primarily been fueled with Costco's regular unleaded gasoline, supplemented quarterly with Chevron Injector Cleaner. Should I be concerned about a faulty injector or should I simply replace the spark plugs and wires to see if the issue resolves? The vehicle is typically parked for most of the year due to low mileage concerns but serves as my daily driver during winter months when ice and snow are common. I’ve been delayed in addressing this, and it’s critical that I resolve it within the next few weeks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Fuel injector failure is unlikely given the symptoms; focus on replacing the correct Champion brand spark plugs and high-quality ignition cables. At nearly nine years old, the original components are likely worn out and should be replaced.
