P1450 OBD2 Code in 1998 Windstar: EVAP System Fault - Causes and Vehicle Starting Issues

Model: 1998 Windstar Fault Code: P1450 Posted: 2006-05-12 16:07

I'm experiencing a P1450 diagnostic trouble code on my 1998 Windstar, related to the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system. I want to confirm whether this code is directly linked to fuel pump failure or if it could prevent the vehicle from starting. The vehicle currently does not start and shows no fuel pressure at the Schrader valve. There is power to the fuel pump relay, but I haven't verified further downstream. Could a failed fuel pump be causing this P1450 code? Or is this more likely an EVAP system issue such as a malfunctioning purge valve or charcoal canister? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Gary

It's unlikely that fuel pump failure directly causes the P145

The vehicle does not start and there is no fuel pressure at the Schrader valve. Power is present at the fuel pump relay, but I haven't checked beyond that point. I initially considered whether a failed fuel pump might trigger a tank pressure-related code, but given the symptoms, it's more likely an EVAP system issue such as a faulty purge valve or charcoal canister. I plan to inspect the wiring harness connected to the fuel tank tomorrow before replacing the pump. Thanks for the helpful input.

Is there spark in the engine?
