1998 Nissan Quest 3.3L P0135 O2 Sensor Fault: Diagnosis and Fixes

Model: 1998 Nissan Quest Minivan Fault Code: P0135 Posted: 2014-08-05 12:43

I own a 1998 Nissan Quest minivan with a 3.3L engine and am currently experiencing a persistent P0135 diagnostic trouble code. I replaced both oxygen (O2) sensors, and after resetting the check engine light, it stays off while driving. However, when I turn off the vehicle and restart it, the check engine light comes back on. I've already checked all wiring connections and confirmed that the fuses are intact. Despite these steps, the issue persists—can someone help me identify what might be wrong? First, verify whether you used a genuine Nissan part or an aftermarket sensor. Additionally, have you checked the voltage supply, ground connection, and wiring integrity at both ends of the O2 sensor?

I installed BOSCH O2 sensors on both sides and tested power to the sensor. I'm not sure how to properly check for a ground—can someone clarify? As mentioned, the light goes off while driving but reactivates when I restart the vehicle.

Without using an OBD2 scanner to monitor live voltage readings, diagnosing this issue will be challenging. BOSCH sensors are not recommended as replacements for OEM parts. This is a three-wire O2 sensor: - Terminal 1 (B wire): signal output - Terminal 2 (LG color): ground connection to the PCM - Terminal 3 (12V): power supply from fuse The 12V power comes from the vehicle's fuse box, while the PCM controls grounding—grounding occurs only below 4200 RPM and is disconnected above that speed. When the engine is off and key is in pocket (KOEO), check for 12V at the sensor terminal. Verify resistance between terminals 1 and 3 of the connector: it should be between 2.3Ω and 4.3Ω. If readings are outside this range, or if there's no power, a shorted ground, or faulty sensor (especially with BOSCH part), the P0135 code will persist.
