1998 Mustang P1729 Fault Code: Does It Relate to Catalytic Converter or 4x4 System?

Model: 1998 Mustang Fault Code: P1729 Posted: 2016-04-18 16:50

I recently received a P1729 diagnostic code on my 1998 Mustang. This is a low 4x4 switch-related fault code, even though I do not have a 4x4 system. I'm wondering if this code could be linked to my catalytic converter or if it's related to the vehicle's 4x4 control module. Could this be a false positive due to a faulty PCM or a software update from Ford?

The P1729 code is typically associated with the 4x4 switch signal, but since you don't have a 4x4 system, it may indicate a false positive. This could be caused by a faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or an outdated software flash update from Ford.

Try using a different OBD-II scanner to verify the code and ensure it's not a reading error. A consistent P1729 code across multiple scanners would help confirm whether this is a genuine issue or a false signal.
