1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee P0720 Code: Which Sensor Causes the Fault - OSS vs VSS?
My 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee is displaying Diagnostic Trouble Code P0720. I'm trying to determine whether the Output Speed Sensor (OSS) or Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is causing this issue. I have a sensor located at the rear of the transmission on the driver's side, and another in the transfer case. Which one is responsible for triggering the P0720 code? Please clarify if OSS and VSS are different sensors and which one should be checked first.
It's possible that either sensor could be contributing, but the Output Speed Sensor (OSS) is more likely to trigger P0720 as it directly monitors transmission output speed. The VSS in the transfer case may not be directly linked to this code. Check the OSS first, especially if the transmission is experiencing shifting issues.
