1998 Ford Expedition Bank 1 and Bank 2 Fault: Aluminum Heads Cause Spark Plug Failure and Misfire Codes?

Model: 1998 ford expedition Fault Code: P0136 Posted: 2014-10-03 08:21

My 1998 Ford Expedition is experiencing repeated issues with aluminum cylinder heads causing spark plugs to pop out and strip their sockets. This has occurred twice already. I'm wondering if the P0300, P0301, and P0302 diagnostic codes—along with hesitation and rough idle—are directly related to these spark plug problems caused by the aluminum head design.

Have you checked the fuel pressure and fuel filter? Low fuel pressure due to a weak fuel pump or dirty fuel filter would cause all of the symptoms such as hesitation, rough idle, and system lean conditions across both Bank 1 and Bank 2. A lot of modern vehicles—including many 1998 Ford Expeditions—feature aluminum cylinder heads and engine blocks. Have the spark plugs ever been over-torqued? You should always install them according to factory specifications. Over-torquing can lead to this exact issue, especially in aluminum-head engines.
