1998 Ford Escort 2.0L SOHC Engine Fault Code P1405 Diagnosis and Fix

Model: 1998 Escort 2.0 SOHC Fault Code: P1405 Posted: 2011-09-30 15:21

My 1998 Ford Escort 2.0L SOHC engine runs smoothly and has recently undergone a valve job and tune-up. After approximately 1,000 miles, the vehicle triggered fault code P1405. This code is associated with the differential pressure sensor circuit, specifically indicating an issue with the EGR upstream hose being disconnected or blocked. I'm looking for guidance on how to properly diagnose and resolve this problem. Any insights into checking the DPFE (Differential Pressure Feedback EGR) system would be greatly appreciated.

Fault code P1405 indicates a problem with the EGR upstream hose of the differential pressure sensor. The most common cause is a disconnected or clogged hose. Please inspect the DPFE-related hoses, especially after maintenance work like valve jobs or tune-ups—sometimes these components are accidentally disconnected during repairs.

Thanks for the tip! I found that the EGR upstream hose had been disconnected when the owner changed the fuel filter. It was left off during maintenance, which triggered the P1405 code. Reconnecting it resolved the issue.

Great to hear the problem is now fixed—this is a common oversight in routine maintenance on 1998 Ford Escort models with SOHC engines.
