1998 Chevy K1500 P0300 Random Engine Misfire: Causes and Fixes
I own a 1998 Chevrolet K1500 and am experiencing a random/multiple engine misfire. The issue only occurs when driving at 75 mph on the highway, specifically around 2000 RPMs. At that point, the engine struggles, spikes to 2500 RPMs, and the 'Service Engine Soon' light flashes several times before staying on. I've already replaced the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor with no improvement. Does anyone have a reliable solution for this P0300 code issue? Any insights or diagnostic steps would be greatly appreciated.
The only fault code reported is P0300. Start by checking fuel pressure and perform a leak-down test under KOEO (Key On, Engine Off) conditions. Also, describe the condition of the old spark plugs—were they wet, black, dry, or tan? This information can help determine if the issue lies in ignition or combustion.
