1997 Ford Grand Marquis P0466 and P0308 Fault Codes: Diagnosis and Fixes

Model: 1997 Grand Marquis Fault Code: P0308 Posted: 2017-04-29 08:34

I've replaced the spark plugs, MAF sensor, and fuel filter, but the vehicle still exhibits performance issues. The check engine light remains on with codes P0466 and P0308. I'm seeking reliable troubleshooting steps to resolve these problems.

P0466 is a relatively rare code; it indicates an issue in the evaporative emissions system vent control circuit. P0308 — misfire in cylinder 8 — requires checking for spark at the #8 plug using a noid light to verify injector pulsing. Also inspect compression and look for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold on cylinder 8. Note: Cylinder 8 is located on the driver's side, rear of the engine.

Correction: The code is actually P0446 — evaporative emissions system vent control circuit malfunction. A loose or broken clip on one side of the fuel injector connector could potentially cause a misfire in cylinder 8, even if the plug appears securely connected and not visibly loose.

YES! There are available aftermarket clips and short wires designed to simplify fuel injector connections. I recommend checking all connectors for wear or damage and replacing any faulty components as needed. I'll update with more details about P0446 later.

Always verify that the engine receives a stable 12V power supply when cranking (KOEO test). A common cause of misfires and code persistence is poor ground or voltage. See this helpful video for guidance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1h-3W4SFgk
