1997 Ford Taurus P1451 Fault: Unexpected Voltage Detected on Vent Solenoid Circuit

Model: 1997 Ford Taurus Fault Code: P1451 Posted: 2017-06-12 13:19

The OBD-II diagnostic code P1451 has appeared in my 1997 Ford Taurus, indicating that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detected an unexpected voltage level on the vent solenoid circuit. This fault code is typically associated with abnormal electrical signals from the vent solenoid, which may stem from wiring issues, a faulty solenoid, or poor connections.

With the vehicle off and key in OFF position (KOEO), unplug the vent solenoid. Check for 12V on the red wire — is it present? Answer: yes or no. Next, check for voltage on the P/W (power/ground) wire — is there any reading? Ensure the wire is not grounded. Answer: yes or no. If both wires show normal readings, proceed to test the solenoid's resistance; it should fall within 48 to 65 ohms. This will help determine if the issue lies in the wiring or the solenoid itself.
