1996 VW Jetta Not Starting: Codes P1225-P1228 and P1425 - Ground Short to Fuel Injectors & Tank Vent Valve
I own a 1996 Volkswagen Jetta that will not start. After replacing the ignition coil, I received diagnostic codes P1225-P1228 (ground short to fuel injectors 1-4) and P1425 (tank vent valve short to ground). Prior to the coil replacement, there were no error codes. The vehicle had spark before the repair, but now it fails to start. I replaced the ignition coil due to visible cracks on all sides—indicating a poor-quality or failing component—and installed a high-quality aftermarket replacement. However, the new codes have appeared. I'm seeking help to understand whether these codes are related to the coil failure or point to another underlying issue such as wiring faults or electrical grounding problems.
You replaced the ignition coil because the car wouldn't start—was that the only symptom? If you revert to the original coil, do the error codes disappear? Does this indicate a complete loss of spark or just a weak one? Where did you purchase the replacement coil? Can you confirm it was installed and wired according to the factory specifications?
