1996 Subaru Legacy Outback 2.5L MFI 4-cylinder P0500 Fault: Vehicle Speed Sensor Issue

Model: 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback Fault Code: P0500 Posted: 2012-10-10 16:27

The vehicle speedometer, cruise control, and check engine light have all stopped functioning simultaneously in my 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback with a 2.5L MFI 4-cylinder engine. The onboard diagnostic system has triggered trouble code P0500, indicating a malfunction of the Vehicle Speed Sensor A. All systems are now non-responsive, and I am seeking advice on troubleshooting this issue.

P0500 indicates a malfunction in the Vehicle Speed Sensor A. Please inspect the wiring harness, connectors, and the sensor unit itself for damage or corrosion. Ensuring proper electrical connection is critical to restoring speedometer and cruise control functionality.

In my case, after replacing both the Vehicle Speed Sensor 1 and Vehicle Speed Sensor 2, the vehicle speedometer, cruise control, and check engine light still remain non-functional. The issue persists despite sensor replacement, suggesting a deeper electrical or mechanical problem.
