1996 Saturn SL1 P0133 and P0141 O2 Sensor Codes: Caused by Faulty Catalytic Converter?

Model: 1996 saturn Fault Code: P0133 Posted: 2008-06-01 13:18

I own a 1996 Saturn SL1 that is displaying both P0133 (O2 sensor slow response, Bank 1, Sensor 1) and P0141 (O2 sensor heater circuit fault, Bank 1, Sensor 2) diagnostic trouble codes. I'm wondering if these codes could be caused by a failing catalytic converter. Any insights or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help.

The P0133 and P014-1 codes typically indicate that the 12-year-old oxygen sensors are nearing end-of-life and likely require replacement. However, before replacing the sensors, it's important to verify power supply, ground connections, and wiring integrity—these issues can often mimic sensor faults. I recommend checking fuses and electrical circuits first. Good luck, and please update us on your findings.
