1996 Nissan Sentra P0170, P0325, P1401: Are These Codes Related? Intake or EGR Valve Issues?
I'm currently experiencing three diagnostic trouble codes on my 1996 Nissan Sentra: P0170 (Fuel Trim Malfunction), P0325 (Knock Sensor Failure), and P1400 (EGR Valve Temperature Sensor). I'm wondering if these codes are interconnected. I've read that intake system issues might trigger multiple engine performance-related codes—does this apply here? Could a faulty EGR valve or clogged intake contribute to all three? Any insights or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.
The P0170 and P1401 codes are likely related—both can stem from intake system problems such as clogged EGR passages, vacuum leaks, or carbon buildup. Knock sensor issues (P0325) are common on Nissan models and typically require replacement of the sensor itself. However, a faulty EGR valve or poor intake airflow may cause both fuel trim and temperature sensor errors.
