1996 Mercury Sable 3.0L V6 P0401 and P0430 Fault Codes: Causes and Fixes
Last night, when I started my 1996 Mercury Sable with the 3.0L V6 engine, the Service Engine Soon light was illuminated. After connecting a OBD2 scanner, I found two diagnostic trouble codes: P0401 (EGR flow insufficient) and P0430 (Catalyst efficiency below threshold — Bank 2). I cleared the codes and inspected the underhood components. I noticed that the PCV valve was loose and nearly dangling, so I reinstalled it securely. Given this, I'm wondering if a faulty or improperly seated PCV valve could have triggered these specific engine codes. Any insights from owners of the same model? How should I proceed to resolve P0401 and P0430 on my 1996 Mercury Sable?
