I have the exact same issue on my 1997 Honda Accord LX. However, I'm experiencing a complete loss of power—my car idles fine in park, but as soon as I shift into drive and press the gas pedal, it sputters and struggles to accelerate. This started suddenly. I've already replaced the timing belt, water pump, fuel filter, and cleaned the fuel injectors with no improvement. I took it to AutoZone and got the same P0135 code: O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1). Could a clogged catalytic converter be causing this? It could be both issues. For the P0135 code, replacing the O2 sensor as suggested by Jeff is a good first step—many older Honda models have sensors that wear out after over 14 years. For the power loss, check for exhaust restrictions and verify fuel pressure. A clogged exhaust or low fuel pressure can cause sudden performance drops even if the engine starts fine.
