1996 Chevrolet Caprice P0125 Code: Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Issue Causes Stalling After Driving

Model: 1996 chevrolet Caprice Fault Code: P0125 Posted: 2015-02-01 01:54

My 1996 Chevrolet Caprice starts fine initially, but after driving for 5 to 10 minutes, it begins to run roughly and then stalls. The car will not restart immediately—after about 20 minutes, it may start again, only to stall shortly thereafter. If I simply start the vehicle and don't drive it, it runs smoothly for up to 24 hours without any issues. However, as soon as I begin driving, it fails mid-route. We've already replaced the spark plugs, fuel filter, and battery with no improvement. The fault code displayed is P0125: 'Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Insufficient for Closed Loop Fuel Control'. What other potential causes could be responsible? Any suggestions on how to diagnose or fix this issue?

Check the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor circuit and ensure it is properly connected, grounded, and functioning. A faulty sensor or wiring issue can trigger P0125 and lead to stalling during operation.

The problem persists even after checking the ECT sensor—stalling still occurs when driving but not when idling.
