1996 Chevrolet C1500 P/U 5.0L V8: P0141, P0172, P0175, P0300 Codes & Starting Issues with Brake and Airbag Light Flashes

Model: 1996 Chevrolet C1500 P/U 5.0 L V8 Fault Code: C1500 Posted: 2010-05-31 09:27

I own a 1996 Chevrolet C1500 P/U with a 5.0L V8 engine. The vehicle is currently displaying several diagnostic trouble codes: P0141, P0172, P0175, and P0300. Last night, when I attempted to start the truck, the brake light and airbag warning lights flashed briefly on the dashboard before extinguishing. Shortly after, the A/C system stopped working — both blower motor and compressor failed to engage. After shutting off the engine and trying to restart it, the vehicle would not crank over. This morning, during troubleshooting, I was able to get the engine to turn over by testing the start fuse using a test light. However, the ignition switch itself does not allow the truck to start. No other fuses appear to be faulty. Given these symptoms, I'm wondering whether this is more likely an ignition switch failure or if the vehicle's computer has blocked starting access due to error codes. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Could the truck have been exposed to water recently? Moisture could affect electrical components, especially in older vehicles like this one.

We experienced light rain yesterday and drove through it. That's the only exposure the truck has had to water so far.

The ignition switch is a likely culprit in this 1996 Chevrolet C1500 — it powers multiple circuits, including those related to starting and warning lights.

I agree with that. I replaced the ignition switch myself, but the issue persists. I'm now taking it to a mechanic for further diagnosis.
