1996 BMW 740iL - P1174 and P11-75 Fault Codes: CE Light Returning After O2 Sensor Replacement

Model: 1996 BMW 740iL Fault Code: P1174 Posted: 2006-10-25 09:06

Hello, I've been experiencing a persistent Check Engine (CE) light on my 1996 BMW 740iL, which is now preventing me from passing emissions testing and registering the vehicle. Due to strict emissions standards, I need to resolve this issue. I recently replaced both catalytic converters and both pre-catalyst oxygen (O2) sensors as part of a troubleshooting effort. Initially, my car displayed 12 fault codes, but after repairs, only two remain: P1174 and P1175. The CE light reappeared this morning after approximately 100 miles of driving. I'm not a professional mechanic, but I've done significant work on my own vehicles and am willing to try various solutions. Can anyone provide insight into diagnosing these specific fault codes? Thanks in advance, Chris

A technical article at http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl648h.htm mentions a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) related to P1174 and P1175 on the 1996 BMW 740iL. However, I have not been able to locate this TSB online. Anyone else know where it might be available? Thanks.
