The first potential issue to consider is the Ignition Control Module (ICM). Please verify if there is 12V present at the ignition coil's pink wire when cranking.

My '89 model of the same truck and engine stopped running unexpectedly, which turned out to require a full distributor replacement. The engine control module attempted to compensate for worn or inconsistent components and eventually exhausted all available adjustment options before shutting down completely. After replacing the distributor, along with ignition wires and plugs, it returned to being my reliable 'Little White Racin' Truck. Good luck with your diagnosis!

No spark indicates a lack of ignition signal. Fuel pump is confirmed operational — check fuel pressure to rule out delivery issues. For TBI (Throttle Body Injection) systems, verify if fuel is being sprayed during engine cranking. Use a test light: connect one end to ground and touch the positive terminal of the ignition coil while cranking. The test light should illuminate steadily. Then, touch the negative terminal of the coil with the test light — it should flicker. The negative side of the coil is the control side. If no flickering occurs, the issue may lie in the ignition module or a crankshaft/camshaft position sensor that triggers the module.

I found the root cause: it was the pickup coil. After replacing the distributor, the truck started and ran normally. Thanks to everyone for the helpful troubleshooting tips!
