2009 Chevrolet Cobalt P0013 Fault Code: Causes and Diagnosis

Model: 09 Chevy Cobalt Fault Code: P0013 Posted: 2014-08-21 11:21

My 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt has triggered a P0013 diagnostic trouble code, with the vehicle having reached 54,000 miles. I recently had an oil change less than 20 miles ago—could this be related to the fault? The P0013 code indicates an issue with the exhaust cam position actuator solenoid control circuit, typically involving a short to ground or short to voltage. As the engine has a sight shield that requires removal to access the actuator, I'm wondering if the oil change played any role in triggering this error. Any insight into whether routine maintenance could cause such a code would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check the oil level and ensure it was the correct viscosity? The engine's actuator is located on the opposite side of the oil fill cap, behind a sight shield that must be removed for access. A routine oil change should not directly cause this code—unless there’s an underlying issue with the solenoid or wiring.

This code description is exhaust cam position actuator solenoid control circuit. Basically a short to ground or short to voltage. What the pin point test has done is checks the connector at the solenoid and also atthe harness. Depending on when bought and what it is may be under warranty. Any drivably issues with car?

An open ground in the control circuit is also a possible cause. I would recommend inspecting the solenoid connector to ensure it hasn't been physically bumped or damaged during maintenance or operation.
