2006 Mazda MPV with P2227 and P2144 Codes: EGR Valve and MAP Sensor Replacement Didn't Fix Issue
Last week, I retrieved two diagnostic trouble codes—P2227 and P2144—from my 2006 Mazda MPV. I replaced both the EGR valve and what I believed was the MAP sensor, as the P2227 code is often associated with barometric pressure sensors. However, after these replacements, the codes persist. Based on online forums, it appears that P2227 may be directly influencing the appearance of P2144 related to EGR system performance. I’m now considering disconnecting the sensor connector and splicing a new one in place as a temporary fix. However, I’d like expert advice before proceeding—especially since the vehicle still exhibits intermittent check engine light activation and poor idle behavior during cold starts. Any insights or confirmed solutions for this specific combination of codes on a 2006 Mazda MPV would be greatly appreciated.
I've encountered the same issue with my 2005 Mazda MPV. The check engine light triggered a P2144 code, leading me to replace the EGR valve. Afterward, a P2227 code appeared. I replaced the MAP sensor, and for about 10 miles everything seemed normal—then the check engine light returned with a P214-4 code again. No visible vacuum leaks or wiring issues were found.
