2006 Chevrolet Impala P0011, P0121, P0449, P0455, P1516, P2101, P2143, C0700 - Engine Power Reduction and Shifting Issues

Model: 06 Chevy Impala Fault Code: C0700 Posted: 2016-03-07 10:54

My 2006 Chevrolet Impala is showing multiple diagnostic trouble codes: P0011, P0121, P0449, P0455, P1516, P2101, P2143, and C0700. When these codes appear, the vehicle frequently displays 'engine power reduced' and 'service traction control' messages. Additionally, gear shifting becomes difficult or inconsistent during these occurrences. I'm wondering if this is a known issue with the 2006 Impala model and whether it might be resolved by simple wiring fixes or if deeper mechanical components are involved.

If multiple codes appeared suddenly—no issues before, then all at once—I suspect a voltage-related problem. My experience suggests that ignored symptoms tend to worsen over time, or modifications may have contributed to the issue.

The dashboard warnings first appeared last winter and disappeared temporarily, but have returned more frequently this winter. While I suspect cold weather might be a factor, they still occur even as temperatures rise. All these codes appear simultaneously, which makes me think it could be a common issue specific to the 2006 Chevrolet Impala.

These issues—transmission not shifting and reduced engine power—are serious and should not be ignored. Is the vehicle stock? No aftermarket electrical modifications installed?

Yes, the vehicle is stock with no added electrical components or modifications.

Unfortunately, it's not something simple to fix—these codes likely need to be addressed one at a time in sequence.

Ensure the battery is in good condition and the alternator is properly charging. Clear all codes and monitor if they return. If they reappear, inspect the PCM connector for physical damage or moisture exposure. This could be a key troubleshooting step.

My check engine light came on today with code P0011. I contacted the dealer and have an appointment scheduled for next week. He advised that as long as the warning light is solid, I can continue driving it—though I'm concerned about long-term safety.

This issue relates to variable camshaft timing. Check engine oil levels and condition—low or degraded oil could be contributing to the problem. Beyond that, no quick fixes are available.
