2005 Pontiac Cruiser P0700 Code: TCM Connection Issues After Battery Disconnection
I'm not sure if this issue has been reported by others, but my 2005 Pontiac Cruiser is displaying a P0700 diagnostic trouble code. However, when I attempt to read transmission-related codes using the onboard diagnostics, the TCM (Transmission Control Module) fails to connect. After disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, the TCM occasionally connects and shows no transmission errors—sometimes it simply reports 'power was disconnected.' Once the engine is started, the vehicle loses power and the TCM connection is lost again until I perform another battery disconnection. This behavior suggests a potential issue with the TCM or related wiring. While I'm considering a PCM (Powertrain Control Module) fault, I hope that's not the case. Any insights or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.
The PCM is unlikely to be the root cause. First step: check the TCM fuse and the TCM relay—located in the Power Distribution Center (PDC).
