My friend recently asked me to check the engine codes on his 2005 Ford F-150, as it has started exhibiting poor performance and lack of power. The diagnostic scan revealed several trouble codes: P0300 (random misfire), P0171 (lean mixture bank 1), P0174 (lean mixture bank 2), P2196 (oxygen sensor circuit malfunction - bank 1, sensor 1), and P2198 (exhaust pressure sensor circuit malfunction). I am familiar with the first three codes, which point to a faulty MAF sensor likely caused by improper installation of a cold air intake kit two days ago. Upon inspection, the wires were bent and covered in oil from the filter, confirming my suspicion. The last two codes—P2196 and P2198—are less common and I have not found detailed information on them in official Ford documentation or technical resources. I used an Actron CP9125 scanner to retrieve these codes. While the MAF issue has been addressed, I remain curious about the root cause of the P2196 and P2198 errors. I suspect they may be related to sensor contamination or electrical interference from the installation, but further investigation is needed. Any insights or experiences with similar codes on a 2005 F-150 would be greatly appreciated.

It's worth having the truck scanned by a dealership-level diagnostic tool to get more accurate readings. Did the power loss start immediately after installing the cold air intake? Were there any existing codes before the installation?

No prior codes were present. The performance issue began right after the cold air kit was installed. I removed the kit and inspected the components—found bent wires covered in oil from the filter, which likely damaged the MAF sensor. He's currently repairing it, so no new codes have appeared yet. However, I'm still puzzled by the P2196 and P2198 codes. These are not commonly documented, and I suspect they may be linked to sensor contamination or electrical faults from the installation. I might need a more advanced scan tool for deeper analysis, but I'd love to hear if anyone else has encountered these specific codes on a 2005 F-150.

I’d definitely throw out the oil-soaked filter—contaminated air intake components can cause serious sensor issues. Just saying, no power adder should make vehicles perform so poorly!
