2005 Chevrolet Impala P0502 Code: Diagnosis After VSS Replacement

Model: 05 chevy impala Fault Code: P0502 Posted: 2017-02-12 22:20

I own a 2005 Chevrolet Impala that is displaying a P0502 diagnostic trouble code. I recently replaced the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), but the code persists even after clearing it from the ECU. Despite this, the issue continues to appear. Can anyone provide guidance on possible causes or troubleshooting steps? The vehicle is still drivable, but the check engine light remains on and affects performance.

Check bbbind.com for a wiring schematic. The VSS circuit typically has two wires: power and ground, running from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to the sensor. To troubleshoot, disconnect the VSS connector and verify that both power and ground are present at the connector end. While specific voltage specs may not be available, comparing it with another similar sensor—such as the Input Speed Sensor (ISS)—can help identify inconsistencies or faults in the circuit.
