04 intrepid 2.7l no spark, code P0113, flashing cel

Model: 04 Intrepid 2.7L Fault Code: P0113 Posted: 2014-04-15 20:02

well the subject says it all really. 04 dodge intrepid se 2.7l engine, has no spark, and code P0113. (air intake voltage high). i have checked all 3 timing marks on the main timing chain, and the 2 marks on the cams, they all line up good. i have reset the cel a few times with scanner, d/c battery, and pulled pcm. it still flashes 10 times. i have jumped the auto shut down relay and still no spark. had code P0688. battery was almost dead from cranking. i have d/c the cam position sensor and cranked for 30 sec. with no spark. i have checked both crank and cam hall effect sensors with multimeter and both check out ok. getting dc voltage out as the engine is cranked, do not have sine wave tool to test that way. getting good 5vdc in and a stable ground on both sensors. and all the fuses and relays check out ok. so short of replacing the pcm and sensors, anyone have any ideas as to what else i can do to trouble shot this thing before i just turn it into scrap metal as i have spent way to much time getting no where with this car and its no spark issue. IE: mabey someone knows what wire gets voltage into the pcm for spark, and what wire sends the signal to the coil parks to let them fire, and a way to test them for a bad pcm as i do not want to throw good money after bad guesses. and thanks in advance for any help or ideas anyone is able to provide

at the injectors is there 12v? Does a noid light flash? at the coils is there 12v ? No security light (i f applicable) No other codes? use a scanner - is there an RPM during cranking? try unplug the CMP - did it try to start? - indication of sync or cmp issue If no then access the cmp/ckp phase or sync PID with your scanner

we have no voltage at the injectors or at the coils. all im reading is a max of 0.223v. i have not seen any security light on at all. and no there is no other codes. i will bring my scanner and noid lights home tomorrow to test that way. i did unplug the CMP camshaft position sensor and cranked for 30 seconds, not once but 3 times that is how i got code P0688 and i think code P0123 but not sure, i cleared them out and put it back together. put it on the charger and tried to restart it again with no new codes coming back besides the P0113 code, i think i had that sensor d/c when i was trying to start it before. also when the car died i was driving and it had just started to overheat, did not go over 3/4 of the way up before the car shut off 1/2 block from the the house. but it led me to checking the timing chain and guides.

no volyage at coils or injector points at the ASD relay and its circuit. Start there - wit KOEO the inj and coils should have 12v. on the common wire.

i have 12.7v at the asd relay terminal 30 and terminal 85 for the coil on the relay. i have checked the relay and it works fine, i have also used a jumper wire terminal 30 to 87 to eliminate the relay assy as a possible issue. i do not know where the wire goes after the relay or if it has a inline fuse somewhere that i have not been able to fine. also tested with noid tester and do not have any flashing lights on the injectors or coils.

is there 12v at the coil? injectors? if no that is your issue...there are several fuses in the PDC - do not just look at a fuse you must check it with a testlight or DVOM memory is old nut ck fuse "S"

ok, i have checked all the fuses last night with the dvom for continuity and they all checked out ok. i have also found that the crank and camshaft position sensors voltage output is the same voltage input at the coils and injectors. i do not know if that is important or not as i was thinking that the voltage output triggered something inside of the computer to make the coils and injectors fire. also the voltage at the crank sensor is 5vdc on the purple wire, .02 ohms on the ground wire, and 5vdc on the yellow wire. when i hook them up, the yellow wire voltage drops down to a max of .223 vdc when im cranking the engine. but the voltage is changing when i crank the engine

what voltage is at coils/inj? KOEO it is 12v yes- no?

Anonymous 2014-04-20 17:29

.223 vdc at the coils and injectors, with koeo. so no 12v there. im wondering/thinking its a bleed through or something like that cause i am out of ideas

that is the problem you need 12v at coils and injectors... did you check the fuse I mentioned in the PDC? smoewhere the 12v from ASD is interrupted to the coils and inj....there are several fuses in PDC - OR you have a damaged wire.

pdc is that the fuse location under the hood, or is it somewhere else? edit: ok, i did a google search and found the pdc, it is that fuse location i was looking at and all my fuses are good there, but on fuse "S" injector fuse, i only have 0.203vdc, same voltage im seeing at the injectors, with 11.97vdc at the main power bar going into the power distribution center. does fuse "S" get its power from the main power bar going in, located next to fuses "A" and "H" or does it get it from somewhere else?

time permitting I will look at a wiring diagram. Is there a remote starter on this vehicle?

Anonymous 2014-04-21 17:09

i have not found a remote starter, but it is hard saying as i have not been looking for one, and do not know if it has one. i hooked up noid lights today and am getting a flash on the injectors, but not the coils. i have also learned today that my voltage output on fuse "S" is 0vdc koeo, but jumps up to 11vdc while cranking the engine. i jumped the asd relay and it put 13.5vdc at fuse "S" koeo, and dropped to 11vdc while cranking. no change in noid lights still only the injector noid flashes. i have 0vdc at fuse "V" pcm, but it also changes to 11vdc while cranking the engine. i also ran 13vdc direct into the fuse "V" and the engine started to crank, with koeo. i also got 3 new codes today, with the asd relay jumped. 2 for the radiator fans, high and low, and i think P0685 open asd relay

you need a wiring diagram - I see the inj and coils are on the same circuit... unlikely 1 without the other unless serious wiring damage. Your probing of the ASD circuits- the PCM energizes the ASD which supplies 12v to the 2mentioned components- THE PCM may time out the power to the ASD and fuel pump relay if it does not see a crank or rpm signal in x amount of time a minute or so.. check private messages

i am cranking at 140rpms. and with the injectors working but not the coils, i am also starting to think of the wiring, or the ecm. the wiring diagram will help me do a pin out to figure out if it is the wiring or the ecm. right now im looking for another car with a 2.7l in it around the same year to borrow the ecm.

Anonymous 2014-04-24 20:30

well after looking at the schematics for the 2.7l engine. i see that there is a shared component on bank1 and bank2 of the coils. capacitor1 and capacitor2. i only tested bank2 cylinder #4. i will have to retest all of the coils to see if any of them are working. now im wondering what the capacitor looks like. if it is the little funny thing that bolts on the back of the valve cover, between cylinder 2/3 and cylinder 5/6, for a ground with a single spade connector. i do have one of them damaged and it fell apart when i pulled the valve cover. i will check all that out this weekend as im starting to think that could be my issue. i will also pin out the wires to make sure there are not broken, or going anywhere else. if all that passes then i suppose im buying a new ecm as thats the last issue i can think of it might be.
