2004 Dodge Stratus P0335 Code: Persistent Check Engine Light, Hard Starting, and Vehicle Shaking at Different Speeds

Model: 04 dodge stratus Fault Code: P0335 Posted: 2012-01-29 17:10

After replacing the crankshaft position sensor on my 2004 Dodge Stratus, the P0335 diagnostic trouble code persists. The check engine light was initially flashing, accompanied by hard starting and violent shaking at various speeds. Following the replacement of the crankshaft sensor, the code remains present but now stays solid (no longer flashing). The vehicle continues to exhibit the same symptoms. Given that the sensor has been replaced with a genuine OEM part matched to my VIN for emissions compliance, I suspect there may be an issue with the wiring harness or connector—particularly since earlier models of the 2.4L engine have known issues with sensor connectors and harness integrity.

What brand of crankshaft position sensor did you install? Was it OEM, aftermarket, or a specific brand?

The Dodge dealership confirmed they only have factory-original sensors available for this model year and VIN.

Interesting—typically OEM dealer sensors are reliable. Since the issue persists, it's possible something was overlooked. Could you confirm which engine variant you have? The 2.4L engines in early 2004 Dodge Stratus models had known connector and harness problems that could cause intermittent P0335 codes or driveability issues.

Thanks for the tip! I returned to the Dodge dealership, received a sensor specifically matched by VIN for emissions compliance, and will test it in the coming days to see if this resolves the P0335 code and the vehicle's symptoms.
