1998 Dodge Ram 5.7L Transmission in Limp Mode: P0700 and P0750 Fault Codes - Diagnosis & Fixes

Model: 04 dodge ram Fault Code: P0700 Posted: 2019-03-03 17:45

I've been troubleshooting my 1998 Dodge Ram 5.7L (191,000 miles) for two weekends with no success in clearing P0700 and P0750 codes. The truck entered limp mode unexpectedly twice on my way home from work. I could temporarily exit limp mode by turning the vehicle off and restarting it. During my first scan, the OBD2 reader indicated under-voltage and valve power feed failure, along with a P0700 code. As a first step, I replaced the transmission control module (TCM) from Flagship One. After installation, I drove approximately 50 miles to work without any codes or limp mode. However, on my way home, the truck re-entered limp mode. At that time, I observed low voltage readings when probing the solenoid pack harness connection. I then replaced the solenoid valve assembly, both filters, and added approximately 9 quarts of new transmission fluid. After a test drive, the check engine light came back on after just half a mile. When I checked the fluid level at a parking lot (hot condition), it was low—requiring about one quart to refill. After adding fluid and clearing codes, I drove home but the check engine light returned within minutes. The scan now shows both P0700 and P0750. I've double-checked the new solenoid and wiring from the TCM connector, which reads approximately 2.1 to 2.2 ohms—within expected range. Despite these efforts, I'm still unable to resolve the issue. Any additional insights or diagnostic steps for this specific combination of P0700 and P0750 on a 1998 Dodge Ram 5.7L would be greatly appreciated.

P0700 is an informational code indicating a general transmission system fault, not a direct engine issue. It points to a problem within the transmission control system and does not specify the root cause—further diagnostics are required. For P0750, which indicates a solenoid circuit malfunction or communication failure between the transmission and ECU, refer to this resource: https://www.obd-codes.com/p0750
