2003 Jetta 2.0L Engine Misfires & Starting Issues: P0261, P0267, P0270, P0264, P0445, P0037, P0418 and More

Model: 03 Jetta 2.0 Fault Code: P0037 Posted: 2015-12-01 20:01

My 2003 Jetta 2.0L has been experiencing intermittent starting problems and rough engine operation. Today, the car would barely run during my commute but started and ran smoothly on the way home. This is the first time I've noticed such issues after it started running fine previously. I used a basic OBD2 scanner to read the fault codes today, which included: P0261, P0267, P0270, P0264, P044

Given the multiple engine misfire and injection-related codes (P0261, P0267, P0270, P0264), inspect the wiring harness—especially the injector control circuit, purge valve circuit, and secondary air circuit. These circuits are common failure points in 2003 Jetta 2.0L models.

John - have you found a resolution to this issue? I'm currently seeing the same codes on my 2004 Jetta and am at Pep Boys, where technicians are unable to identify the root cause. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Lily

Always start with basic diagnostics—this approach saves time and money. All of these codes relate to a shared fuse. Check the fuse box, specifically fuse #43 (10A) which powers the fuel injection system in the 2003 Jetta 2.0L.
