2003 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7L Engine P0132 O2 Sensor Code: Diagnosis and Fixes

Model: 03 dodge ram 1500 Fault Code: P0132 Posted: 2007-10-18 13:00

Hi everyone, I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7L V8 engine and around 30,000 miles. It's showing a P0132 O2 sensor fault code. I've already replaced both oxygen sensors, but the code persists. I checked the sensor pin fit, wiring connections, and the vehicle's computer — everything appears to be in order. The wiring looks intact. Can anyone offer insight into what might be causing this issue or suggest further troubleshooting steps?

P0132 indicates a short to voltage on the signal wire of the oxygen sensor. To diagnose, unplug the sensor and use a voltmeter to check for voltage on the signal wire harness side. If voltage is present when the sensor is disconnected and the key is on but engine off, there's likely a wiring short to power. If the voltage disappears when unplugging the connector, then the oxygen sensor itself or its installation may be faulty.

Did you install generic or aftermarket O2 sensors instead of OEM parts? Using non-OEM sensors can sometimes cause intermittent P0132 codes due to poor signal quality or compatibility issues.

Thanks for the help! The issue was a defective aftermarket oxygen sensor — it was one out of every ten I tested. Switched to an OEM sensor from the dealer and the P0132 code cleared immediately.

That's not possible — I'm having the same issue with my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.7L Hemi, standard cab, 2WD, automatic. The P0132 code returns after sensor replacement. It's strange because when I rev the engine to 1000 RPM and hold it steady at start-up, the check light goes out — everything seems fine under load. I suspect worn spark plugs might be contributing. My dealer previously recommended replacing them at 20,000 miles, but I didn't do so. Also, I used cheap universal O2 sensors — I can't believe Bosch parts are unreliable. I've read many posts and it's frustrating to see this recurring.
