2003 Dodge Dakota 3.9L Engine P0441 Code: Purge Solenoid Clicking at Idle - Diagnosis & Fixes
I'm experiencing a persistent P0441 diagnostic trouble code on my 2003 Dodge Dakota with the 3.9L engine, specifically in the quad cab model. Before responding, please ensure you've read the full post. Over the past six months, I have replaced several key components related to the evaporative emission system and engine management: - Purge solenoid - Leak Detection Pump (LDP) - All vacuum lines in the engine bay, secured with hose clamps - PCV valve and its grommet - All evaporative lines connecting from both LDPS and purge solenoid to the engine and charcoal canister, fully clamped - New ECM (Engine Control Module) - New MAP sensor - New IAC (Idle Air Control) valve - New TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) - New spark plugs, wires, coil pack, pickup coil - New coolant temperature sensor - New crankshaft position sensor - New oxygen sensors - New catalytic converter - New intake gaskets and bottom intake plate - New throttle body gasket - New valve cover gaskets - New gas cap Components not replaced: - Charcoal canister - Plastic evaporative line running from the charcoal canister to the top of the fuel tank (location unknown) I have not performed a smoke test on the system. The symptom is clear: when idling at a stoplight or in a drive-through, I hear the purge solenoid clicking intermittently. After a few seconds, it stops, and if I restart the engine, the same pattern repeats — click, pause, repeat — until the check engine light illuminates. This behavior only occurs during idle. This strongly indicates an issue with purge flow, but despite replacing all accessible components, I cannot identify the root cause. I am seeking expert input on this specific P0441 issue in a 2003 Dodge Dakota 3.9L. Please only respond if you have hands-on experience with this model and have fully reviewed my post.
