03 cavalier 2.2 p0122 dtc p0452

Model: 03 Cavalier 2.2 Fault Code: P0122 Posted: 2015-10-27 14:33

Changed the sensor, sensor plug and new wires. Have good 5v reference, good ground, signal wire shows .49v idle 4.43 Wot. I've checked all the wiring from pcm to tps. Voltage at pcm (couple inches away on dark blue signal wire) is same as at the tps. I dont know where to go from here. What could be causing the p0122 code to keep coming back?

there are no other codes? then with your scanner, start with freeze frame, then look at what the PCM is actually seeing (TPS) compare to your voltages. If that checks out look at DTC p1122 troubletree GTG

Live data at idle scan tool reads 0.00 WOT 100. On two other vehicles I hooked up said 9.6 idle and my truck said 15.3 at idle. What would cause the cavalier tps to read 0 at idle (while running)? Thank you very much for responding!

there are no other codes or issues? at the time scan tool reads 0.00 what are you seeing with DVOM probe? 15.3 what can't be volts. So how does the scan tool report TPS values- does not read like voltages... have you unplugged the PCM connector before, please CONFIRM the vehicle is STOCK.

P0452 keeps coming up also but the p0122 was on way before the EVAP dtc set I haven't checked the voltage at tps while the car was running with scan tool hooked up yet. I assumed it would be the same voltage I got while key on engine off. I will check though I unplugged the pcm once but only the one plug and everything looked normal. And the dtc was on before I did that. The car is completely stock. 99586 miles code came on after a 15 mph front end collision. Its not volts because with engine off scan tool reads 1500 at WOT. Its a generic cen tech from harbor freight.

Sorry typing on my phone. Scan tool reads100 at WOT

Scan tool reads tp in %

ok we now have a direction...my first reply asked about other codes- BECAUSE A FTP (P0452) sensor issue can complicate this TPS issue, internally - shared 5v reference. Any history/pending p1639? Fuel gauge working? any recent work rear of vehicle?

Sorry I didn't think the other code was affecting the tps because it didnt come on until recently. When we first bought the car two years ago a code kept coming up and the gas cap was replaced and the dealership did something else after the code came back on. Im not sure what the code was or any of the work that was done but it was two years ago fuel gauge is working and no history/pending of the p1639 that im aware of. Rear passenger wheel bearing was replaced about a year agoalso

I did not know they shared the same 5v reference. I have been working on the tps code for a couple months now and the FTP sensor code just came up recently. I said evap in my first comment because my scan tool said check the evap system for that code.

And thank you for taking the time to try and help me. Ive been stuck on this for a while now.

will scanner display FTP sensor voltages -

Anonymous 2015-10-28 15:50

No, only in percent. And cavalier reads 0% idle with key on engine off and while engine running. My truck shows 15.3% idle running and with key on engine off. (If that helps you. Sorry I know i alreadytold you that!

percentages are not helpful the issue is voltages, seeing exactly what the pcm sees..

Anonymous 2015-10-28 18:06

heres my 2 cents.......either the pcm is not seeing the tps signal voltage due to a bad tps that is shorting out or faulty connector or wiring from tps to pcm or you are losing the 5 volt ref due to something else pulling the 5 volt ref down.I would clear code and get a tpin and back probe the signal wire at the tps connector and start car and use battery neg for meter ground open throttle back and forth and see what the signal voltage is also monitor at the pcm terminal back probed with a tpin and see if you have the same voltage at pcm that you do at the tps connector signal wire.tps signal wire at pcm is connector c2 pin 31 db wire.if high at tps and low at pcm then wiring problem from tps to pcm.if voltage drops at tps connector signal wire then either losing 5 volt ref or faulty tps.next would have to back probe the tps 5 volt ref wire at tps and using battery neg for meter ground and if the 5 volt ref is dropping out while moving throttle.you have 4 pcm feeds for 5 volt ref but all connected together inside the pcm board. Code P0122-Throttle position sensor signal voltage was under 0.1 volts for 10 seconds. Testing: TPS voltage should be between 0.60 to 0.70 volts zero throttle. Measure the voltage at the sensor. If the voltage is too low, Check the 5 volt reference at the sensor. If the 5 volt reference is good the TPS is bad. The PCM will default to set values if this code is set. The default values on a scan tool are 0% throttle when vehicle speed is under 2 MPH, and 10% when vehicle speed is over 3 MPH. These readings will not change with throttle movement.if losing 5 volt ref possible bad computer or a sensor shorted pulling down 5 volt ref.the code would not set if not low at some point.may be an intermittent.

Kev, scanner doesn't read FTP sensor voltages..... Autojoe, thanks for the help I will see what I come up with trying that and go from there I thought it might be intermittent also but every time we clear the code and start the car the scanner shows tps code as pending. The ftp sensor code was staying out longer but now its coming back on quicker after I clear it. (If that helps) I'll post my results as soon as possible. Thank you again

I know this is an old thread but hoping the OP every solved the issue? I’m having the EXACT symptoms.
