2002 Ford Taurus P1504 Code: Idle Control Valve Replacement Not Resolving Issue
I have a 2002 Ford Taurus with a persistent Check Engine Light and Diagnostic Code P1504. I recently replaced the intake air control valve (commonly referred to as the idle control valve), but the code remains active. The engine idle appears stable, and no immediate performance issues are present. However, the fault code persists. Could this indicate a deeper issue with the engine management system or another component? Any guidance on troubleshooting P1504 in a 2002 Ford Taurus would be greatly appreciated.
Check if the idle is stable and being properly controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If the idle is steady, try disconnecting the voltage regulator from the alternator while the engine is running. If the P1504 code clears, it may indicate an electrical interference issue. If the code remains, inspect the diode pattern on the B+ terminal of the alternator with the engine running and electrical loads (like headlights or blower motor) engaged. Erratic voltage spikes suggest a faulty alternator that should be replaced.
