02 Dodge Ram 1500 Failed PCM Cause? P0601
Hi there.. a newbie here so please forgive if I'm not giving all information i need. I also apologize for this long post, but I'm hoping it may all be related. I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 Quad cab 2wd P/U. I had some issues with a code P0441. The code would come and go.. I changed the gas cap. checked the purge valve operation and checked for cracked hoses. none found so far. this went on for about 3-4 months. I would clear the code. it would go 2-3 weeks maybe and the code would come back. The other day, my A/C stopped cooling at a stop so I thought it was low on freon.( bare with me here as I think this all might be related to the failed pcm) The check engine light was still on at this time. I checked the pressure on the low side and it was over 100 psi. with compressor clutch pulled in. That's WAY too high. Then as I was driving, I had to floor it into passing gear and my truck dropped out of gear and then back in. the check engine light went out. A few seconds later it came back on and I went and had it checked and it has a code P0601 Failed PCM. Anybody else had issues with a failed PCM??? I don't want to drop $400.00 on a new one IF there is something else causing a problem.. ANY help is appreciated..
PCM's do fail - BUT I find that to be very very rare. I would ask you - 1) will your scanner rear all codes- manufacturer specific P1xxx and above? 2) tell us what codes are present now ALL of them. 3) How does truck run now? 4) any and ALL modifications ANYTHING not DODGE... Answer that and Monday I will plug in the codes at work.
