2002 Cadillac DeVille P0171 and P0174 OBD2 Codes - Fuel Quality & Coolant Warning Explanation

Model: 02 Cadillac DeVille Fault Code: P0171 Posted: 2010-09-26 13:32

I'm currently experiencing only two diagnostic trouble codes: P0171 and P0174. I've already inspected all fuel lines and hoses, and everything appears to be in good condition. Additionally, the dashboard consistently displays a 'Check Coolant Level' message. Despite these checks, the engine performance is affected, and I'm seeking advice on how to resolve this issue.

Have you recently replaced your fuel filter? A dirty or clogged fuel filter could be contributing to the P0171 and P0174 codes. It's worth checking, especially if the engine is running poorly.

P0171 and P0174 often appear together and may indicate poor fuel quality. Try adding a dry gas additive such as Yellow Bottle Heet (12 oz) directly into your fuel tank to see if the codes clear or improve. If water contamination is suspected, use Red Bottle Iso-Heet (12 oz), which removes up to five times more water than the yellow version. These products are available at stores like Walmart for around $1 to $2 per bottle.
