2001 Nissan Maxima P0300 Misfire - Help Needed with Diagnosis and Fixes

Model: 01 maxima Fault Code: P0300 Posted: 2011-07-16 15:07

We've been troubleshooting this issue for over a week, and the only fault code we're getting is P0300. The vehicle runs roughly most of the time and struggles to climb hills—barely making it to my house. Previous owner replaced the fuel pump, we've already changed the spark plugs, inspected the catalytic converter and EGR valve, checked all coils, and tested the fuel injectors. Fuel pressure will be checked next Monday. Despite these efforts, no resolution has been found. Our mechanic is running out of ideas—anyone else have experience with this specific P0300 issue on a 2001 Nissan Maxima? What are common root causes or diagnostic steps we might have missed?

When the engine runs smoothly, it produces significant power—sometimes throwing you back in your seat. This suggests a possible intermittent misfire that only appears under load.

Consider switching to a different mechanic. A P0300 code on a 2001 Nissan Maxima should not be this difficult to diagnose with proper tools and experience.

It's likely related to faulty spark plugs or coils—especially since they can be temperature-sensitive. Additionally, camshaft and crankshaft position sensors are known reliability issues on older Nissan models like the 2001 Maxima.
