P1144 Fault Diagnosis and Repair for 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

Model: 01 Jetta TDI Fault Code: P1144 Posted: 2007-07-13 21:15

I own a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta 1.9T DDI and am currently experiencing a P1144 diagnostic trouble code, which indicates either an open or short to ground in the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor circuit. After consulting with a local parts supplier, I learned that MAF sensors on this model are prone to failure. I replaced the MAF sensor as recommended, but the P1144 code persists. According to the official repair manual, the voltage readings at the MAF connector are within specified limits. Despite this, the issue remains unresolved. What other diagnostic steps should I consider? Any insights or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated.

Have you verified that the P1144 code description is accurately interpreted from the vehicle's OBD-II system? It's important to confirm whether the fault is indeed a short to ground or if there could be another underlying cause.

The Volkswagen service manual lists P1144 as indicating a short to ground in the MAF sensor circuit. This aligns with your description and supports the need for further inspection of wiring or connectors.

I found it!! As the code was saying it was a short to ground. I discovered that one of the shops had replaced the MAF connector plug and the splice did in fact have a short in it.
