2001 Chevrolet Impala 3.8L: P0341 Fixed, But O2 Heater & Evap Monitors Still Not Ready for Smog Test

Model: 01 Impala Fault Code: P2177 Posted: 2009-09-05 07:38

I own a 2001 Chevrolet Impala with a 3.8L engine and approximately 130,000 miles. I'm preparing the vehicle for an annual smog test and have encountered an issue: despite replacing the cam position sensor (code P0341) and clearing the fault code, neither the O2 Heater monitor nor the Evap system monitor is reaching 'ready' status. The fault code has not returned and the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is off. I've driven the vehicle for over a week following GM's recommended drive cycle, as well as regular daily driving, but no progress has been made. I recently replaced the front O2 sensor, suspecting it was failing to register adequate heat—however, after additional drive cycles, the issue persists. For smog compliance, I only need one of these two systems to be marked 'ready.' I'm seeking clear technical information on how the O2 Heater system functions and whether there's a common oversight or basic step I may have missed. Is the O2 Heater part of the O2 sensor function, or is it a separate system? Regarding the Evap system, I believe a smoke test is necessary since no visible leaks are present in any hoses, and I've already replaced the gas cap. Any guidance on troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated.
