> So we’re now looking at three consecutive years of decline, with each year worse than the last: > * 2023 → 2024: Down ~10% * 2024 → 2025: Down 27.8% * 2025 → 2026 (Jan): Down 43.9% > The trajectory isn’t flattening. It’s accelerating.

ComicsEtAl 2026-02-06 13:41

Elon is the bottom.

meatbag2010 2026-02-06 13:42

There is a bottom. 0 It will happen eventually, even taking Musk out of the equation, they are selling 2 cars that now look old and there are better alternatives out there.

Flick-tas 2026-02-06 13:57

Australia is much the same.. Jan sales: Tesla: 501 sales, -32.2% BYD: 5001 sales, +640.9% Edit: [https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/vfacts-january-2026-australias-new-vehicle-market-up-just](https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/vfacts-january-2026-australias-new-vehicle-market-up-just)

WhoisthisRDDT 2026-02-06 13:58

I wonder if they are taking losses on those giga factories investments.

peakedtooearly 2026-02-06 13:59

European EV owner here. We are changing our car this year and I would pay 50% more to not drive a Tesla. Luckily there are ton of great alternatives from Kia, Skoda, VW, BMW now so I don't have to.

AlmightyRobert 2026-02-06 14:04

They’ll be selling two actual cars to their two remaining customers and the share price will still be upwards of $500.

JTrem67 2026-02-06 14:06

Canadian here. Same thing !

FutureBiotechVenture 2026-02-06 14:09

Same here.

dextercho83 2026-02-06 14:09

Good. Fuck TSLA

Chemical-Idea-1294 2026-02-06 14:12

Sorry from Germany, they went up 1.7% in January here. But to our defense, the whole market grew by 23%. Teslas ev market share went down from 3.7 to 3.0%.

I-Pacer 2026-02-06 14:18

He’s certainly Trump’s bottom.

Theferael_me 2026-02-06 14:19

If over 700,000,000 people in Europe don't want his cars, why would they want to buy his 'robots'?

I-Pacer 2026-02-06 14:20

So I guess we know that 3% of Germans vote AfD and want an EV.

tensov 2026-02-06 14:22

And yet TSLA will go up regardless. 0 sense.

Scrutinizer 2026-02-06 14:25

So, stock up 5% today, or 10?

palopp 2026-02-06 14:27

Just wild guessing here, but I think that the drop last year was fueled by anti Elon sentiment from the proportion of the population that was aware of Elon’s Nazi sentiment. However there were still a part that wasn’t aware or didn’t care enough to couple Elon’s sentiments with Tesla. However this year, we now have a large anti-American component to the drop too. Even the European far right feels that the US has gone too far and looks at the US with growing suspicion, as MAGA apparently does not mean MEGA but instead MESTAOR (Make Europe Subservient To America or Russia. So Tesla has lost almost all bastions of support, and all is left is the people who still thinks Elon is Tech-Jesus who has come to earth to save humanity. That’s a shrinking demographic as his Nazi antics sort of flies in the face of the savior image he wants to portray.

Arglefarb 2026-02-06 14:28

Next step, sell SpaceX to Tesla for $400 trillion, spin off xAI, sell Tesla to xAI for $500 trillion, spin off SpaceX, sell xAI back to SpaceX for $600 trillion, rinse, repeat

torokunai 2026-02-06 14:29

the factories were bought with regulatory credits more or less.

Internal_Concert_217 2026-02-06 14:35

Don't forget the actual quality of the cars. I've seen lots of reporting of them being one of the least reliable.

Real-Technician831 2026-02-06 14:39

Sure there is a bottom, can’t get below zero.

FreshPrinceOfH 2026-02-06 14:40

Only up 1%. Need more bad news to get it to the moon.

Real-Technician831 2026-02-06 14:40

Give new Toyota bZ or Subaru Solterra a try. The latest models improved a lot and it’s dirt cheap as AWD.

Chokedee-bp 2026-02-06 14:40

As an American that’s not racist and understands world news it’s reassuring that most countries refuse to buy from Elon and companies owned by nepo billionaires that talk trash to most of society

Equivalent_Plan_5653 2026-02-06 14:41

2% right now

JohnHazardWandering 2026-02-06 14:42

...and the stock goes up 5%

worker_bee_drone 2026-02-06 14:45

It's down there somewhere. Let me take another look.

phibber 2026-02-06 14:46

That’s part of the problem with the futuristic design language - it looks dated more quickly.

zdboslaw 2026-02-06 14:50

Good

kneejerk2022 2026-02-06 14:50

My money is on VW buying the Berlin factory by the end of the year.

Bagafeet 2026-02-06 14:57

BYD just warming up. The Atto 1 gonna eat.

I_did_theMath 2026-02-06 14:59

Good news. This totally-not-a-car-company is selling fewer cars, so they will be more focused on their not-a-car-company products. Expecting the stock to go up 10%.

acchaladka 2026-02-06 15:07

As a Canadian family-driver type of person, would you do me a small favour next time you're near Wolfsburg DE? Please stand outside and scream politely at the corporate HQ, that we want the 2028 VW ID Buzz long camper with a massive range improvement, V2X, and Rivian software, immediately if not sooner? Thank you. PS. Of course Elon can go eat a bag of dicks.

Ok_Woodpecker17897 2026-02-06 15:14

Calls!

adario7 2026-02-06 15:22

Good News, stock go brrrrrr

InvisibleBlueRobot 2026-02-06 15:29

based on this trajectory, 2027 will be the break out year with car sales down a record 92%. This is Musk at his best with his strategic 3D chess. It will finally allow him to build (mostly non-fuctional) robots to maintain his (non-existent) data center in outerspace. Stock up 122% on the news.

Saires 2026-02-06 15:36

>* 2023 → 2024: Down ~10% >* 2024 → 2025: Down 27.8% >* 2025 → 2026 (Jan): Down 43.9% >The trajectory isn’t flattening. It’s accelerating. For all who are too lazy to math: Its 63% down overall, so far. Now add Chinas New law for car handle...

Sir_Isaac_Tootin 2026-02-06 15:38

Not sure where you're seeing down 43.9% for Jan 2026. Jan 2025 = \~9,700 total Jan 2026 = \~7,800 total (maybe 1-2 small countries left to report)

ad-astra-specta 2026-02-06 15:46

But... that would be cannibalism.

Schoeddl 2026-02-06 16:04

BMW has been here for three years!

Trades46 2026-02-06 16:09

Good. Make them get rid of their facist ceo

Deliximus 2026-02-06 16:39

We can make an exception here

fastwriter- 2026-02-06 16:40

But BYD who where far behind Tesla in Jan. 2025 this month sold double the Cars compared to the Musk-Mobiles.

bate_Vladi_1904 2026-02-06 16:46

Same for me - and i already made my choice: Skoda Elroq.

hamatehllama 2026-02-06 16:53

This is a question that's never asked in public. Their TAM estimate is complete BS. I personally don't see the point of battery powered androids even without the Tesla brand. Robots should do things humans can't do ourselves. For that we have actual useful robots by Kuka, ABB etc.

Interesting-Cake1595 2026-02-06 16:53

Meanwhile, sales are in over 9% in China, the world's largest auto market.

hamatehllama 2026-02-06 16:58

Here in Sweden they have been blacklisted by ARN because they refuse to fix obvious issues that should be covered by warranty. ARN judgements aren't binding but Tesla is the only car brand that has refused to fix issues ten times in a row. Their refusal to negotiate with the union has also made them loathed in Sweden.

War_Fries 2026-02-06 17:03

China just banned hidden door handles. They did that for a reason, and it's not safety.

Xnub 2026-02-06 17:11

same

Chemical-Idea-1294 2026-02-06 17:17

Counted BEVs only, they are nearly the same (1300 Tesla vs. 1500 BYD). BYD is only strong in small cars (Dolphin Surf). Interresting how it developes when VW starts with the ID.Polo

CRXCRZ 2026-02-06 17:34

Smert.

joeythemouse 2026-02-06 17:42

Fuuuuck. Is reality catching up? Finally.

No-Incident-9226 2026-02-06 17:46

Same here

Dapper_Many_1899 2026-02-06 18:09

Same, also I have a company with employees that have gotten tesla in the past. That will also never happen again.

RSNKailash 2026-02-06 18:31

TSLA stock cant crash soon enough....

hjras 2026-02-06 18:34

at this point, how can you trust the company that is either unwilling or unable to change CEO?

BigMax 2026-02-06 18:35

But they aren't a car company, it's ok! They are a... AI? nope, not that anymore... let's see... oh yeah, Tesla, the company that sells cars, isnt' a car company, they are a robotics company! So... that's why the stock is so high! They must be selling a LOT of robots!!

BigMax 2026-02-06 18:37

BYD is SO happy that Musk came out as a terrible Nazi and hateful, stupid person, while at the same time the US decided to fight the future and stop pushing EV's or green energy here. It's like halfway through the Olympic marathon, one of the leading competitors says "running is dumb, I'm going to drop out and take up smoking instead."

iplayfactorio 2026-02-06 19:25

Not EV owner , but I might buy one when my 20+year car die. Tesla is banned from my search even if they are the best EV in my opinion. Other brand offers good alternative.

iplayfactorio 2026-02-06 19:27

They are selling only 2 car model but still the best value/price of the market at that price range. It's just people don't like nazi.

BlacksmithNZ 2026-02-06 19:31

I would not read too much into that stat from Jan 2026; Australia sales are very lumpy and the 500 or so Tesla sales is normal in Jan compared with 2000 - 3000 per month. The BYD sales are more significant; they are releasing new models on a regular basis, they are popular and gaining a reputation for reliability and good quality Atto 1 should mean BYD take top spot this year, and Tesla continues to decline Here in NZ the market seems flooded with second hand Tesla M3 at very reasonable prices. I am keen to buy an EV this year to replace my ICE, but I made a decision to not buy a Tesla while Elon is there

praguer56 2026-02-06 19:33

I wish I could insert a fingers crossed emoji here. I know Musk doesn't care because he's pivoting to SpaceX and Ai now. Tesla will dies on the vine and he won't notice.

apworker37 2026-02-06 20:34

Yeah. We’ve declined the applications for Tesla ever since the Nazi salute. It was the very last and thinnest straw there ever was.

After-Cartoonist-157 2026-02-06 20:47

He's probably already eaten them.

nlaak 2026-02-06 21:29

> Not sure where you're seeing down 43.9% for Jan 2026. From the article...

Sir_Isaac_Tootin 2026-02-06 21:30

"Here’s what the early data looks like across the five European markets that have released January 2026 figures"

Beartrkkr 2026-02-06 21:54

Who is gonna want a first gen house robot?

After-Cartoonist-157 2026-02-06 22:06

I think that's what he's going to do.

After-Cartoonist-157 2026-02-06 22:07

Musk is shrewd; he knows Tesla failed, that's why he switched to SpaceX.

living_rabies 2026-02-06 22:42

I really don’t believe that’s the case. There has been so many issues with those, especially with Chinese manufacturers, I honestly believe its due to safety. There are several Chinese manufacturers affected as well.

mrbuttsavage 2026-02-06 23:08

Maybe the "amazing abundance" is in excess inventory.

Busy-Explanation4339 2026-02-06 23:16

>PS. Of course Elon can go eat a bag of dicks. Or run backwards through a field of them.

mickalawl 2026-02-07 00:33

For $5 sure. Not for what the price will need to be to recoop the sunk costs.

superkattmat 2026-02-07 00:34

If any friend would buy a tesla at this point, i would seriously reconsider if that friendship is worth maintaining, and pretty much everyone around me feels the same way. Musk is a social cancer.

phillyphilly19 2026-02-07 01:32

I have to say given the cost, reliability, battery life, and depreciation, I'm confounded why people are even buying electric cars anymore. Especially in the US where there are no more tax credits.

etaoin314 2026-02-07 02:50

What about the cyber truck? /s

ExcitingMeet2443 2026-02-07 05:29

You can according to Trump; sales can easily drop by 300, 400, 600%

ExcitingMeet2443 2026-02-07 05:32

When sales of Tesla cars drop to zero, The stock will rise to infinity.

PracLiu 2026-02-07 09:04

Then you do not know how Chinese work. The timing is the important part.

NotFromMilkyWay 2026-02-07 09:42

German numbers: Tesla +1,9 % YoY Sounds like a bottom? Well, BEVs grew 24 % YoY, so the market share for BEVs for Tesla shrank from 3,7 % to 3 %. Yes, that's right, Tesla is barely selling 3 % of all BEVs in Germany. 1.301 cars. Out of over 42.000. BYD sold twice as many. And VW has like 50+ % market share.

NotFromMilkyWay 2026-02-07 09:45

Say what? I save 2800 € per year over ICE due to gas cost alone. My battery sits at 93 % after 100.000 km. My car is the most reliable I have ever owned and depreciation only exists for people that sell young cars, not for people that buy to drive them until they break. Anybody not driving electric these days that could charge at home is an idiot.

NotFromMilkyWay 2026-02-07 09:47

Doesn't matter. That fascist owns a majority of the company. Even if he leaves nobody wants to buy Teslas because the money ends up in his pocket. Tesla is done.

NotFromMilkyWay 2026-02-07 09:48

VW wants to shut down three of their German plants and you think they want to add another one???

NotFromMilkyWay 2026-02-07 09:49

20 % of German built Model Y fail the mandatory check after three years. Normal rate is 4 %.

NotFromMilkyWay 2026-02-07 09:50

Many people, myself included. But not from Musk.

Kami0097 2026-02-07 12:13

That's about the maximum as it gets since our AFDler are like the US MAGAs are gasoline guzzlers ...

AllWashedOut 2026-02-07 13:08

I dunno... Compare a 2012 Model S to a competitor, like a 2012 Audi A4. Did the Tesla age worse? I would argue not. The infotainment bigscreen was a uniquely bold design for 2012 that has stood up incredibly well. The cyber truck is a different story. The folded aluminum shell is interesting from a technical point of view. But it never stood a chance against the background of Elon's growing public toxicity.

64590949354397548569 2026-02-07 13:21

>Luckily there are ton of great alternatives For some reason people don't like to buy brandnew OLD cars.

phillyphilly19 2026-02-07 13:48

What car, how long have you had it, what country?

Cwelle007 2026-02-07 15:41

Well... divided by zero = infinity

EverythingMustGo95 2026-02-07 16:01

Would you have him use assholes instead? It would STILL be cannibalism.

ianishomer 2026-02-07 21:36

Tesla is finished in Europe, I have said before that the factory in Germany will close. As soon as Musk started his antics with Trump, his fate was sealed. On top of that his acts are now less desirable than other EV vehicles

whoisnotinmykitchen 2026-02-08 02:00

gentmick 2026-02-08 10:47

That would be Chinese EVs.

DistributedView 2026-02-08 12:02

This is a structural problem. Tesla are not converting existing customers coming off lease into replacement cars. Instead they are moving to different brands. These customers are likely lost forever. Tesla is valued as a tech company, but this level of customer churn would be unheard of in a successful tech business.

BigLeopard7002 2026-02-08 13:41

Millions of robots! Wait....what? Not one robot sold yet?

namotous 2026-02-08 15:42

Tesla wouldn’t care cuz it’s not a car company! Right? /s

QVRedit 2026-02-08 15:47

Not screwed enough to avoid the whole messy stupid business of the ultra-right wing stuff though. Elon could have been a people’s hero, but he chose the wrong path…

rbetterkids 2026-02-08 16:05

Probably why elon used the excuse of not making anymore model S and X to make the robot. It will suck for owners when he discontinues the model 3 the Y. Similar to Fisker. Imagine driving around a car you know will go into the junkyard once a part breaks down because they don't make them anymore.

Irishspringtime 2026-02-09 01:15

Overall, Chinese EV sales are down. BYD, the world’s largest EV maker, reported its lowest monthly sales in nearly two years this January, with domestic sales dropping roughly 30% year-over-year. This marked the company's fifth consecutive month of declining sales. So it's possible the Chinese government is giving manufacturers time to stop production and time to regroup.

January is Tesla's export month. So, naturally deliveries/sales are down. Exports from Giga Shanghai surged 71% in January. Remember, Tesla only counts a sale when the car is delivered.
