Why is Tesla buying and leasing its own cars so often?  How does it affect their quarterly reporting?

£20,000 is a fraction of a drop in the ocean for a company like Tesla. Either make it a percentage of revenue, or perhaps double the fine each time Tesla refuses to comply. Otherwise, it is just a very small “cost of doing business” for them.

Seem Tesla’s incompetence is protecting bad drivers from disqualifications. I would have thought that the fines would be higher.

So if Tesla pays the fine of unknown drivers does this impact the price Tesla pays for insurance?

Agreed. If they don't up it for repeated offences, it costs tesla more in employee hours than the fines cost.

The biggest take up of EVs in the UK has been for company cars. Basically employers offer employees a car as part of their pay package in lieu of cash. This is taxed using a "Benefit in Kind" calculation based on the value of the car and a banding based on emissions. EVs are a tiny fraction of an ICE car on this basis and has been a very effective driver for EV uptake. Now when these cars are offered to employees, the companies don't want to actually go out and buy cars that they'd have to have sat on their balance sheet, so they lease them from a lease company (i.e. Tesla Financial Sevices). Now let's say your company had leased from one of the mainstream lease providers, what ordinarily happens is that when you get caught by a speed camera the letter gets sent to the lease company who then forward it to the customer (typically with an additional admin fee), should it be escalated the lease co will pass on the details of the customer to the authorities. It seems this has not been happening properly. (Which is not surprising as Tesla UK couldn't organize a piss up at a brewery!!)
