Almost done doing nothing.

Low-Win-6691 2026-01-18 17:11

Just waiting on their imaginary chip fab to complete

TryIsntGoodEnough 2026-01-18 17:11

I wonder if that includes actually prototyping the chip to ensure it works or just engineering schematics....

Gobias_Industries 2026-01-18 17:12

"This is news to us" reports AI5 design team

yamirzmmdx 2026-01-18 17:13

It would have been more believable to blame a delay on all the manufacturers producing chips for other companies.

AMCorBUST2021 2026-01-18 17:14

But but I saw a pile of lithium dust

SolutionWarm6576 2026-01-18 17:16

Sure Elon. Sure.

SolutionWarm6576 2026-01-18 17:18

It’s 10 days before 2025 4th quarter earnings report. You know he’s going to try and pump the stock price with BS. Like he always does.

Engunnear 2026-01-18 17:18

Reminder: this is the same idiot who called Level 5 autonomy a “solved problem” the better part of a decade ago.

bobi2393 2026-01-18 17:18

They finished getting to the point of being almost done, like they finished getting to the point of driverless vehicles being almost done in 2016. They're still *at* that point of being almost done, but they finished getting there long ago! <guy-tapping-his-head-meme.gif>

Contributing_Factor 2026-01-18 17:19

Maybe it was ketamine?

brintoul 2026-01-18 17:20

B I N G O. Well, not exactly nothing, I’m sure it’s instrumental in some kind of creative accounting.

brintoul 2026-01-18 17:20

That’s just around the corner!

Engunnear 2026-01-18 17:20

They have a draft statement of functional requirements.

brintoul 2026-01-18 17:21

And the same guy who said the humanoid robots are like, what, a trillion dollar opportunity?

Specman9 2026-01-18 17:22

You can't expect him to keep his various lies straight with all those Ketamine benders.

croatiatom 2026-01-18 17:23

This time next year…

okokokoyeahright 2026-01-18 17:23

Still on the restaurant napkin I assume.

brintoul 2026-01-18 17:24

They’re juuuuuust about to break ground on that bad boy.

Engunnear 2026-01-18 17:25

My bigger problem is with his assumption that the taxi market is a trillion-dollar industry.

brintoul 2026-01-18 17:26

I have so many problems with this dipshit it’s really hard to rank them.

Skycbs 2026-01-18 17:26

Sorta like the Roadster?

Engunnear 2026-01-18 17:26

Fair

FamousChallenge3469 2026-01-18 17:26

Elon Musk is the Patrick Rothfuss of EV vaporware.

Schoeddl 2026-01-18 17:28

I've almost finished my design for AI 11... Now what?

Low-Win-6691 2026-01-18 17:28

TSLA is going down 10% on that day. Zero profit and zero trajectory lol edit: obviously it wont be zero. probably single digit negative

rocketonmybarge 2026-01-18 17:29

Almost done means six months, y’all didn’t know that??? 😉

peakedtooearly 2026-01-18 17:30

Bbbbbuuut ROBOTS! CYBERCAB! MARS!

Arbable 2026-01-18 17:32

Their stock price has nothing to do with anything, if anything it will probably go up.

Low-Win-6691 2026-01-18 17:32

Don’t forget about grokipedia

AbjectList8 2026-01-18 17:33

2 weeks, guys! Just 2 more weeks.

Low-Win-6691 2026-01-18 17:36

I doubt it but maybe. They are somewhat legally required to provide numbers that will not be pretty

Minisciwi 2026-01-18 17:37

It's a meme stock, out will probably go up

[deleted] 2026-01-18 17:40

Almost have the funds together, twitter employees need to take another pay cut to make it happen.

brintoul 2026-01-18 17:41

I hear the Arabs are on board.

neliz 2026-01-18 17:42

they have concepts of a plan

[deleted] 2026-01-18 17:43

My FSD has been almost done since 2018. If Enron Elmo says it, it’s a grift.

runagun 2026-01-18 17:44

Two weeks!

SuperF91EX 2026-01-18 17:45

Ketamine is a helluva drug.

croatiatom 2026-01-18 17:45

Funding secured!

Low-Win-6691 2026-01-18 17:53

Also they’ve already pushed the date for actually launching this shit to end of 2027

BringBackUsenet 2026-01-18 17:57

Next year.

Arbable 2026-01-18 17:58

But already the stock price has nothing to do with reality right? Realistically they should be like mercedes level stock price if their numbers had any bearing on the stock price.

Low-Win-6691 2026-01-18 18:01

Idiot Tesla investors don’t have the capital to push this thing in the trillion dollar range. But if Blackrock wants it to go up it will

mrkjmsdln_new 2026-01-18 18:06

6 months ago it was finished and AI5 was gonna be available at scale in MID-2027. Tesla is STILL the only scale customer for Samsung 2nm fab. Their yields are still reported between 15-20%. Imagine if you had to throw away 5 of every 6 pizzas. This remains a grift until there is some UNBIASED evidence in lieu of 3am tweets from under a desk from a gamer. Familiar companies with real planning departments (think Apple, Alphabet, other hyperscalers, Meta, Broadcom and others are the REAL CUSTOMERS in line for access to TSMC -- they actually produce viable products at this scale. Shrill claims from the middle of the night that do not jibe with your claims last year when you canceled DOJO and largely admitted you are still learning to spell inference do not count. Alphabet is working version 8 of their TPUs. Stop listening to 'we are the leaders in infewence'. If scale occurs for AI5 in the MIDDLE OF 2027 when are we gonna see the AI9 promised during this screed? Common sense is not that difficult. 9 month genewations is just nonsense. It took six years to add cabin lighting in a MMR for their top vehicle.

[deleted] 2026-01-18 18:11

“I’m tired of excuses, you’re all fired!” *Looks around at an empty lab* this should speed things up

Loveroffinerthings 2026-01-18 18:14

Well we know US stocks will tank on Monday, but TSLA will be up 10% of this wonderful news from the worlds most intelligent grifter

pot_head_engineer 2026-01-18 18:17

Both can be true. Being finished with the design doesn’t technically mean it’s ready for production. If they found issues during release to production validation, they have to go back and fix it.

hippotango 2026-01-18 18:19

US stocks sure not to tank on Monday.

JohnHazardWandering 2026-01-18 18:22

98% done. I'm sure the last 2% of edge cases will be easy to solve.

wootnootlol 2026-01-18 18:23

I think design team is at this point is one intern doing vibe design with grok. And somewhat he always ends up with die that looks like a swastika.

Arbable 2026-01-18 18:24

It's not just BlackRock every bank every financial institution not to mention every other stock is completely reliant on always up mentality. They know if one domino falls they are all fucked

PremierLeagueSucks 2026-01-18 18:44

Why cant China, with a population of one billion people just be like Tesla and create the best chips in the world out of nowhere?? Are they stupid?

DhOnky730 2026-01-18 18:51

He said it was going into production soon last spring( then in late November he said it was nearly done. And it’s seen as positive news each time he says the same story 6 months later. Will they have AI5 chips in something this year?

Lotronex 2026-01-18 18:51

"Grok, start designing the AI5"

Lotronex 2026-01-18 18:51

At least I enjoyed the first 1.5 books.

DhOnky730 2026-01-18 18:53

Best part is that even uber Bull Kathy Wood says they won’t show any positive impact from Optimus until 2029. Yet the TSLA fans have it priced for like $150/share already. I’ve asked manufacturers when they anticipate purchasing humanoid robots for their facilities and the answer is pretty simple… Not in their lifetime.

levon999 2026-01-18 18:53

😱

Virtual_Access_2033 2026-01-18 18:55

You don’t get it. Elon’s MIND is in the FUTURE, so anything he says is true, it’s just that REALITY IS TOO SLOW and needs months to catch up. Do you understand?

DhOnky730 2026-01-18 18:59

This is what I keep saying over and over again. They’re talking about having billions of dollars of cybercabs on their books, maintenance, inevitable, lrecalls, software and firmware technicians, charging, insurance, inevitable lawsuits, and a highly competitive low margin industry. But somehow like $200 of current stock value is based on cybercabs and another $200 is based on humanoid robots. Manufacturers that I know say they won’t see humanoid robots in factories in their lifetimes.

Chris_0288 2026-01-18 19:01

He’ll do another “my heil goes out to you” salute and say something about ICE being good and the stock will +10%

Belgarablue 2026-01-18 19:05

It's one more hooker, trying to have Felon Husk's 97th child.

WorldWorstProgrammer 2026-01-18 19:05

>"We're going to end up with complete autonomy, and I think we will have complete autonomy in approximately two years." *- Elon Musk, December 2015* Nope. >"Self-driving will encompass all modes of driving by the end of next year." *- Elon Musk, March, 2018* Hmm... >"Based on current trends, probably close to zero new cases in the US too by end of April." *- Elon Musk, March 19th, 2020* Something tells me it wasn't that close to zero. >"I’m starting a candy company & it’s going to be amazing" *- Elon Musk, May 2018* I'm glad this didn't happen. >"If things go according to plan, we should be able to launch people probably in 2024 with arrival in 2025." *- Elon Musk, June 2016, regarding sending people to Mars.* There's multiple completely broken promises in the Code Conference 2016 interview. >"Well I think we can do at least $2 trillion." *- Elon Musk, October 2024, in response to "How much can we cut out of the $6.5 trillion dollar US budget?"* I can actually just keep going, there's literally so many.

Belgarablue 2026-01-18 19:06

Canada giving the go to allow 49,000 Chinese EV's will hopefully destroy Felon Husk's shitshow!

Who knew you could harvest so much wealth from being the most obvious short ever for over a decade

olyfrijole 2026-01-18 19:46

And all the credulous stooges will sit in slack-jawed amazement as he trots out verifiable bullshit. No one will challenge him on it because they have their entire pension sunk into the success of his lies.

[deleted] 2026-01-18 19:50

Sounds like the delusional crap I kept telling my boss when working on my bachelor thesis

torokunai 2026-01-18 20:17

yeah this is a real Triumph of the Will stock

Virtual_Access_2033 2026-01-18 20:34

You FOOLS. This is how its works: I send my OPTIMUS off to work each day in my CYBERCAB. My optimus works as a surgeon, and it earns me a surgeon’s salary while my cybercab earns me an uber drivers daily take home. While this happens, i sit at home stacking TSLA, and the flywheel effect generates me TRILLIONS PER MONTH to buy MORE OPTIMUS SURGEONS and MORE CYBERCABS. I don’t need to work anymore but I CHOOSE to pay a UBI to the pioneers living on MARS that are setting up the EXPANSION of the human race. Grok will be so advanced that even Elon will yield control to HIM and HE will undress us all and it will be a PRIVILEGE to be undressed by Grok.

VitaminPb 2026-01-18 20:50

Lithium is also a hell of a drug.

VitaminPb 2026-01-18 20:52

You and I know why, but it will be funny seeing people be confused.

Jay_Stone 2026-01-18 20:56

Let me guess…. 2 more weeks?

chriskiji 2026-01-18 21:08

He lies all the time.

VindicarTheBrave 2026-01-18 21:30

Invidia is going to eat Tesla’s lunch.

Joker-Smurf 2026-01-18 21:43

No. Not two weeks. This is Elon. It is always 2 quarters away.

Youngnathan2011 2026-01-18 21:45

Can't believe he'd lie about this /s

Motor_Chard_7230 2026-01-18 21:50

The share price has already gone up twice on the news and will go up a third time when it is actually finished, even though it won’t work.

Loud-Comfortable-827 2026-01-18 21:59

in other news, the Roadster is almost design locked too!

elAhmo 2026-01-18 22:13

Somewhat legally? Musk doesn’t care about the law

Low-Win-6691 2026-01-18 22:18

I was trying to phrase it that way that it may not matter. Every positive metric will be down year over year and quarter over quarter

TryIsntGoodEnough 2026-01-18 22:20

"how about a naked photo of a rtx5090"

TryIsntGoodEnough 2026-01-18 22:21

Yup just more proof that Tesla is a "insert buzzword" company

Duckonaut27 2026-01-18 22:29

King of the billionaire shell game.

Opcn 2026-01-18 22:54

It's announced on a phone call that's all about the next big thing to get excited over and doesn't mention any of the past big things that they have failed to deliver on. They are going to still be, "between growth waves."

Low-Win-6691 2026-01-18 23:03

5 million pre-orders for Optimus booked 👍 Mass production in February maybe March

ARAR1 2026-01-18 23:17

Same over promised shit, different day

ionizing_chicanery 2026-01-18 23:40

Never get high on your own supply.

ionizing_chicanery 2026-01-18 23:43

But he actually said now that the chip design is almost done, not almost ready for production. He's just lying about product maturity and release schedule like he always does. Or if not outright lying making things up that aren't based on realistic status assessments. But probably just lying.

jaimi_wanders 2026-01-18 23:49

Real Soon Now™️!

ArQ7777 2026-01-19 00:19

When Elon said almost done, it could mean one month, one year or FIVE years.

ArQ7777 2026-01-19 00:20

I think Tesla just signed with Samsung which everyone else runs away from. But TSMC would reject Tesla because most Taiwanese think Elon Musk is on China's side.

ObservationalHumor 2026-01-19 00:43

Okay let's say that's true. How long to tape out? How long before the first samples? Every cloud provider and AI company, flush with VC cash, is clamoring for chips and memory at this point. No one gives a shit about making maybe 1.5m chips for Tesla. Especially after how badly they got burned with Musk's promises around Dojo. Is anyone going to be shocked if by the time this things comes out it's a quarter as fast and two generations behind whatever NVIDIA is currently offering again?

Home_Planet_Sausage 2026-01-19 00:56

Imagine what he's like in bed.

daveo18 2026-01-19 01:00

So Elon lied. Again.

daveo18 2026-01-19 01:09

First deliveries next week!

stinusprobus 2026-01-19 01:20

Optimus will design it

practicaloppossum 2026-01-19 01:44

Yeah, he said "design almost done". And the way it works is you do design, and then you do simulations, and then you tapeout, and then you get ES1 samples, and then you a whole bunch of testing on those and fix whatever doesn't work (hopefully just with metal changes), and then you tapeout again, and then you get ES2 samples, and then you do a bunch more testing, and then (if you don't find any problems, or you have workarounds for the problems) you get pre-production samples, and then do you a bunch more testing, and finally you're ready for production. In the real world that takes 2 years (the article said Apple, et al, do a one year cycle, but they don't - they do a new design every 2 years, and just a minor tweak on the alternate years). Musk's timeline is totally bogus.

practicaloppossum 2026-01-19 01:46

Nah, TSMC is in the business of making money, they don't care about politics. If Musk has the money and they have the capacity they'll work with him.

dtyamada 2026-01-19 01:51

Don't forget ... one decade or never

dtyamada 2026-01-19 01:52

I was gonna say only when his lips are moving. Then I remembered he tweets a lot too, so his lips don't have to be moving.

[deleted] 2026-01-19 02:10

Well TSLA is officially underperforming Sp500 in 5 years chart Elmo has to pump it up

ChollyWheels 2026-01-19 03:16

Everyone here is so picky and critical. Look at that photo -- both instances of TESLA are spelled perfectly! Credit where it is due.

[deleted] 2026-01-19 04:35

vic25qc 2026-01-19 04:47

Must be a circle then

Slight_Pomelo_1008 2026-01-19 04:53

I think Musk is improving. At least he knows how to use “almost” instead of “definitely.”

Slight_Ad4087 2026-01-19 04:59

Youre right. Samsung's new plant is being settup for Tesla. I'm pretty sure that Musk is going to rug pull them.

dtyamada 2026-01-19 05:16

Months. More like years. But this theory makes perfect sense! 🤣

dtyamada 2026-01-19 05:17

Short answer ... no, not anything meaningful.

Alternative_Advance 2026-01-19 07:05

Good news dojo 3 is back on menu https://www.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/musk-says-tesla-will-restart-work-on-dojo3-supercomputer-4453268 I think it's a desperate attempt to frame Tesla as an AI company, when he clearly builds that at xai.

tnsaidr 2026-01-19 07:19

Musk: That is too old make one for the yet to be conceived 6090 !

[deleted] 2026-01-19 07:34

Why is he not prosecuted for releasing false information to the market?

Vegetable_Guest_8584 2026-01-19 08:42

you mean the texas plant, i keep reading articles about how it's not working out that well

ShotBandicoot7 2026-01-19 08:53

It‘s gonna be better than NVIDIA latest chip, consuming 90% less energy and at 10% of the cost. Hilarious. And Optimus will provide free surgery for everyone and end world hunger. Way to go! 🚀

ArQ7777 2026-01-19 09:46

If nothing changed, Elon said AI 5 chips will be made by TSMC and AI 6 will be made by Samsung. Also there was news that Elon is mad at TSMC because TSMC won't rush Tesla chips production and Tesla stays in the rear end of customer list. Elon even said he could buy the entire Samsung foundry and all Tesla chips will be made in the house. I know Elon Musk is super rich but don't know he is that rich.

0xe1e10d68 2026-01-19 11:17

So it's basically already ready to be put into 100k units and shipped out to customers!

mrkjmsdln_new 2026-01-19 12:27

This made me laugh :) DOJO is man-child talk for I miss The Karate Kid.

lithiumdeuteride 2026-01-19 18:26

It's finished but not done. Later, it will be done but not completed. Once it's completed, we can then look forward to it being accomplished, finalized, concluded, resolved, and eventually fulfilled.

Ambitious_Reality974 2026-01-19 19:23

ye it went downhill with The Eld forest arc and kvothe being a sex god or something that was kinda weird

[deleted] 2026-01-19 21:21

It’s a solved problem. Just not complete. But already being sold.

okokokoyeahright 2026-01-20 00:36

As in verified and proven through hands on testing? I think not.

mrbuttsavage 2026-01-20 05:38

> "Well I think we can do at least $2 trillion." > - Elon Musk, October 2024, in response to "How much can we cut out of the $6.5 trillion dollar US budget?" > > That one gets me the most, because even a *cursory* look at where the US budget goes shows that makes no sense, considering the majority is mandatory spending and debt payments. Just so stupid.

Slight_Ad4087 2026-01-20 07:04

Samsung already has an existing plant, I think it makes RAM, in Texas and they are starting up a new plant in Texas. The new plant is the one that is being used for Tesla and starting it up is a shit show.

Slight_Ad4087 2026-01-20 07:08

Tesla probably has enough money to startup a fab, but it would take years and billions. It would also likely not work well since Tesla would have to build the technical understanding of how to operate fabs. It would be a terrible decision for Tesla to try to build/operate a FAB. Chip design is probably a more reasonable goal.

bindermichi 2026-01-20 07:53

It will be release next year

ArQ7777 2026-01-20 09:55

I think Elon is talking to himself to buy Samsung fab as the short cut to enter the foundry business. The current Micron CEO used to be TSMC President. Elon can buy him to manage Tesla foundry.

Slight_Ad4087 2026-01-20 15:49

Samsung might take him up on the offer if the offer them enough money and it is probably the best entry point into a current gen fab. It is still a moronic idea. Spending billions of dollars in capital fora side project when the core business is dying is insane. I'm not going to argue that the Micron CEO couldn't do it, but it would take years to acquire the technical expertise to properly run a fab. It is the engineers and technicians who have that and there are a shortage of them.

ArQ7777 2026-01-20 16:56

The current Micron CEO used to be No. 2 guy in TSMC.

neonmantis 2026-01-20 17:13

but they don't have excess capacity with plenty queuing up. they can pick and choose.

neonmantis 2026-01-20 17:19

They often pull something out to mitigate it like recognising FSD revenue or flogging off a load of vehicles to SpaceX but they're running out of those tricks

neonmantis 2026-01-20 17:21

Biped robots are massively overengineered for many tasks. Modern warehouses and factories are already full of robot arms and mini delivery vehicles. It's the leg balance that is the difficult part and they're just not necessary the vast majority of the time, often times its worse than wheels.

neonmantis 2026-01-20 17:23

Didn't he say some crap on Rogan semi recently about the next event being the most incredible launch of all time or something?

neonmantis 2026-01-20 17:27

Hard to top the world's richest man illegally deleting the planet's foremost humanitarian aid agency that primarily existed to provide essential food and meds to the world's poorest people. The loss of USAID has already led to more than 400k preventable deaths and is expected to cost up to 14m lives over the next decade. That is beyond some cartoon super villain shit.

brintoul 2026-01-20 17:29

That hasn’t been put back yet?

neonmantis 2026-01-20 17:30

My personal fave is him promising to revolutionise affordable housing with Boring bricks and then not producing even a single one. Not even a token few hundred for some pilot house. Zero. I tell a lie, they sold a few ornament versions at some daft price for Tesla fanbois.

Ok_Chair_8151 2026-01-21 00:09

King shit of fuck mountain belongs in prison

neonmantis 2026-01-21 02:07

No and there are no signs that it is going to be. I work in the humanitarian sector and it caused chaos and devastation. It wasn't a "we will not provide any further funds" it was a stop work order and that no further funds could be spent. Food rotted in warehouses, essential medicines weren't distributed, staff in conflict zones suddenly without any support. My organisation had to fire 2,500 staff, some got rehired, as a chunk of our money comes from a different donor in the state department, but it was just temporary and we are losing more now as projects close. All this for what? USAID was not a big political issue, it cost relative peanuts (with a large chunk going to US pharma and agriculture), and was widely acknowledged as a highly effective method of soft power. Rubio built his entire career advocating for USAID and soft power. Putin celebrated that one like mad. Who benefits? Whilst literally millions of people will die from the arbitrary and illegal removal of a congressionally funded agency.
