Honesty, it's a good idea to have a window break tool in every car.
Can confirm
Yea I have a combo one that’s like a flashlight with multiple settings, a seat belt cutter, a window break thing, etc.. hopefully I’ll never have to use it, but better safe than sorry.
Like a hammer?
I have them too, but they don't work on the double glazed windows... Also have these emergency straps on the rear door of our model Y.
Per the article; “The idea of combining the electronic one and the manual one together into one button, I think, makes a lot of sense,” -Tesla Chief Designer I'm no engineer so I apologize for my ignorance but, these have already been designed? I can already manually open my car door if my battery dies in my piece of shit Nissan.
Trapped inside what? The repair shop?
I think he is talking about an over engineered door handles like the ones found on the Taycan. 😆
The boring old reliable engineering is electronically actuated mechanical locks. For some reason Tesla abandoned that, and it can’t be for cost reasons, as with R&D alone they could have paid traditional locks for all of their cars. One might think they are quite stupid.
Tesla will refuse to pay insurance because they'll say that the person broke the window🤡📉
It's really hard to figure out where it ends up in a car accident if you keep it in open storage in the car in a car roll scenario. If it's in the glovebox you may not be able to operate the car to get the glove ox open. Be sure to keep it in your pocket, or in the closable center console with the console closed while driving.
I have two in my car.
Tesla hammer
Especially Tesla which has no handle on the door.
So it is useless on Model Y? You have to make Model Y owners aware this.
I think, because I am on this sub, I get all kinds of crazy ads for Tesal shit. Buy this and your tesla will be as silent as a (I forgot the car they mention, bmw, I think).... lol
yeah, I have one that is a keychain so always handy.
They were just trying to create a new cool way of opening doors without understanding the physics of car accidents and the psychology of people involved in said car accidents. It’s like coming up with a new cool way to do something but increases ur probability of dying…only idiots would think that is “cool”
Fireproof suit? 😳
It has a handle, it's just not labeled.
There is no emergency handle on the rear doors
Will that even work on the laminated side glass? I think most if not all models have this front and back now…
Nope. Especially the double laminated.
Just don't buy a wank panza
A very old article or... rather topic. This came up as soon as the first people burned in Teslas.
Manufacturers have no say in insurance policies. Also, if the glass was broken during the claimed accident, it would be included during that event as it was a necessary action to prevent further loss (death). If you're breaking the glass to exit the vehicle, it's likely totaled regardless. Would not play into the coverage decision.
There is, but its a cable under the molding. It's stupid
Maybe just don’t buy junk, it’s just about the lowest quality in the industry from several sources.
I have one of those combo seat cutter glass breaker push thingys thst can fit on a key chain. I think Tesla's laminated glass will be too much for it. May by a small, but specialized hammer.
You sure that can break laminated glass? I have this too and I'm not.
70k miles, barely $2500.00 in maint spent and that includes 2 sets of tires. Find a bmw or anything ICE in that maint $$ range at 70k. They don't exist. My Model 3 has been the highest quality vehicle of all I've owned, Acuras, Lexus, etc.
Ok. Lexus at top of industry in quality and dependability is worse than tesla at the bottom with lane river and vw. Ok.
It will shatter the glass allowing you to kick it out.
Cyber truck owners: ☠️🪦

There isn't on 2023 and older model3's. I checked. If there is, SHOW ME.
How about just getting rid of the death traps, or better, not buying them in the first place?
And a gas mask.
So even if you know where it is, a person in a panic is supposed to peel off the moldingn to get to the handle while choking on toxic smoke?
I have not been impressed with Tesla engineers… honestly and not even trying to be rude or condescending, but factually they are not that smart. Clannish thinking like the Republican Party
Try to find it when you’re on fire.
It’s the free market at work! /s also why school shootings will never be addressed in the US. There’s too much money to be made selling the firearms and related items as well as the things that could theoretically be used to keep the students “safe”
I don't know what model you have but google Model 3 back seat emergency cable
Hey, I own a Tesla and fucking hate it - believe me I'm not defending it. It, like a million other things they do, is fucking stupid
Yes. They work
It is but should not have to be a necessity in your car just due to shitty design.
I bought one that was specifically made for the cyber truck and for double laminated glass. Haven’t tried it but I hope it works if I ever need it Here’s the link: https://a.co/d/bS28fLA
Good luck cybertruck owners. You’ll need a big metal ball
You really have to be brave to drive around in a Nazi's car while on ketamine.
Or buy a different car brand.
That‘s because Nissan does not have a CEO that always engineers via the rule of cool. The X wings are shit. He doesn‘t like door handles, so get rid of them. Or my favourite, the engineers at Space X have to spent dozens of hours to polish and paint the rocket engine black, because some idiot asked Musk once, which one he wants.
The rational free market
Its pathetic to have to do this all coz elmo wanted cool handles
An ad in white supremacist monthly should reach the target audience
Ok found this, so maybe it does it exist, but it's literally not accessible without disassembly and installing more parts. 2023 Model 3 no longer has manual door release in rear [never had them], other changes | Tesla Motors Club https://share.google/GCJqJHfLsB7HMSLtb
Where are the LAWSUITS? NTSB? NHTSA? Unsafe Vehicles Used to not be ALLOWED.
I owned a 2022 Model 3 for 3.5 years and couldn’t find any emergency release latches. The guy in the YouTube video couldn’t find them either. https://youtube.com/shorts/RUp1IRtgkxs?si=qyV7uI7IMCD20fHU
Look if you go into a lake you aren't opening the doors against the force of the water. A glass break tool is useful in other situations.
Tesla actually offer their own insurance for their cars as an option since some insurance companies refuse to cover some cars, like the Cybertruck. So if you use their insurance they do make the call on whether to pay you or not.
Another option is not buying a Tesla.
Heaven forbid, a door handle might allow someone to survive a fire and maybe MElon doesn’t want any liabilities from survivors?
Good point, the electric door probably locks wouldn’t work in water.
Ah but Tesla are supposedly different from shitty Nissans. Perhaps they have ambitions to be better than a Nissan, then again perhaps they want to be worse?
More and more people in the world are choosing this option.
The old adage “trying to reinvent the wheel”.
Nazi mobiles are shit.
…With a square block!
It should just come with one.
Completely stupid design
I have 2 within reach, just in case. Def a paranoia of mine
Dump the car!
*This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev/home)* busy fanatical oatmeal imminent smile scary thought truck late work
Emergency tool = new car
I have first hand experience. They work.
Should just ditch the car and buy into a proper brand
Has anyone here ever been trapped in a Tesla where both the electronic and emergency exit failed?
No, those people burned to death in their Tesla.
> It will shatter the glass allowing you to kick it out. Tell that to the first responders that have been unable to get people out of Teslas.
> My Model 3 has been the highest quality vehicle of all I've owned There's always someone who thinks their anecdote trumps the actual worldwide statistics.
If that happened, no one can escape.
There was a story about a husband getting stuck in, IIRC, a CyberTruck for hours because he either didn't have his phone with him or it wasn't charger or some such and his wife didn't come looking for him. A quick search found [this](https://www.thecooldown.com/green-home/tesla-cybertruck-manual-door-lock-issue/), though I know this wasn't the article I read. He could have easily died like a dog or a baby trapped in a car.
Do you have a link to a story about first responders unable to break Tesla glass? I'd be interested in reading it.
Not surprised at all
How can you say that? [No, glass-breaking vehicle escape tools do not work on laminated windows](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsbL388Ay3A)
