Honesty, it's a good idea to have a window break tool in every car.

SuperF91EX 2025-12-24 21:18

Can confirm

Thisisntmyaccount24 2025-12-24 21:28

Yea I have a combo one that’s like a flashlight with multiple settings, a seat belt cutter, a window break thing, etc.. hopefully I’ll never have to use it, but better safe than sorry.

techbunnyboy 2025-12-24 21:31

Like a hammer?

Streamio81 2025-12-24 21:43

I have them too, but they don't work on the double glazed windows... Also have these emergency straps on the rear door of our model Y.

Ok_Match9012 2025-12-24 21:50

Per the article; “The idea of combining the electronic one and the manual one together into one button, I think, makes a lot of sense,”  -Tesla Chief Designer I'm no engineer so I apologize for my ignorance but, these have already been designed? I can already manually open my car door if my battery dies in my piece of shit Nissan.

Cuntonesian 2025-12-24 22:00

Trapped inside what? The repair shop?

vkick 2025-12-24 22:11

I think he is talking about an over engineered door handles like the ones found on the Taycan. 😆

Real-Technician831 2025-12-24 22:19

The boring old reliable engineering is electronically actuated mechanical locks. For some reason Tesla abandoned that, and it can’t be for cost reasons, as with R&D alone they could have paid traditional locks for all of their cars. One might think they are quite stupid.

Dry_Tangerine_8328 2025-12-24 22:27

Tesla will refuse to pay insurance because they'll say that the person broke the window🤡📉

[deleted] 2025-12-24 22:47

It's really hard to figure out where it ends up in a car accident if you keep it in open storage in the car in a car roll scenario. If it's in the glovebox you may not be able to operate the car to get the glove ox open. Be sure to keep it in your pocket, or in the closable center console with the console closed while driving.

DameLasNalgas 2025-12-24 23:17

I have two in my car.

za72 2025-12-24 23:23

Tesla hammer

ArQ7777 2025-12-24 23:26

Especially Tesla which has no handle on the door.

ArQ7777 2025-12-24 23:27

So it is useless on Model Y? You have to make Model Y owners aware this.

spam__likely 2025-12-24 23:33

I think, because I am on this sub, I get all kinds of crazy ads for Tesal shit. Buy this and your tesla will be as silent as a (I forgot the car they mention, bmw, I think).... lol

spam__likely 2025-12-24 23:34

yeah, I have one that is a keychain so always handy.

zzbear03 2025-12-24 23:39

They were just trying to create a new cool way of opening doors without understanding the physics of car accidents and the psychology of people involved in said car accidents. It’s like coming up with a new cool way to do something but increases ur probability of dying…only idiots would think that is “cool”

Common-Ad6470 2025-12-24 23:43

Fireproof suit? 😳

fossilnews 2025-12-25 00:02

It has a handle, it's just not labeled.

TONNAGE1975 2025-12-25 00:14

There is no emergency handle on the rear doors

not_steve_5000 2025-12-25 00:24

Will that even work on the laminated side glass? I think most if not all models have this front and back now…

anymooseposter 2025-12-25 00:33

Nope. Especially the double laminated.

RodentsRule66 2025-12-25 00:43

Just don't buy a wank panza

[deleted] 2025-12-25 00:45

A very old article or... rather topic. This came up as soon as the first people burned in Teslas.

AnExtraMedium 2025-12-25 00:52

Manufacturers have no say in insurance policies. Also, if the glass was broken during the claimed accident, it would be included during that event as it was a necessary action to prevent further loss (death). If you're breaking the glass to exit the vehicle, it's likely totaled regardless. Would not play into the coverage decision.

SuckThisRedditAdmins 2025-12-25 00:58

There is, but its a cable under the molding. It's stupid

nolongerbanned99 2025-12-25 01:08

Maybe just don’t buy junk, it’s just about the lowest quality in the industry from several sources.

dogmatum-dei 2025-12-25 01:49

I have one of those combo seat cutter glass breaker push thingys thst can fit on a key chain. I think Tesla's laminated glass will be too much for it. May by a small, but specialized hammer.

dogmatum-dei 2025-12-25 01:50

You sure that can break laminated glass? I have this too and I'm not.

dogmatum-dei 2025-12-25 01:55

70k miles, barely $2500.00 in maint spent and that includes 2 sets of tires. Find a bmw or anything ICE in that maint $$ range at 70k. They don't exist. My Model 3 has been the highest quality vehicle of all I've owned, Acuras, Lexus, etc.

nolongerbanned99 2025-12-25 02:01

Ok. Lexus at top of industry in quality and dependability is worse than tesla at the bottom with lane river and vw. Ok.

fossilnews 2025-12-25 02:09

It will shatter the glass allowing you to kick it out.

[deleted] 2025-12-25 02:34

Cyber truck owners: ☠️🪦

lkeltner 2025-12-25 02:51

There isn't on 2023 and older model3's. I checked. If there is, SHOW ME.

BringBackUsenet 2025-12-25 03:22

How about just getting rid of the death traps, or better, not buying them in the first place?

BringBackUsenet 2025-12-25 03:24

And a gas mask.

BringBackUsenet 2025-12-25 03:30

So even if you know where it is, a person in a panic is supposed to peel off the moldingn to get to the handle while choking on toxic smoke?

Derrickmb 2025-12-25 05:10

I have not been impressed with Tesla engineers… honestly and not even trying to be rude or condescending, but factually they are not that smart. Clannish thinking like the Republican Party

Diogenes256 2025-12-25 06:00

Try to find it when you’re on fire.

CoolerRon 2025-12-25 06:37

It’s the free market at work! /s also why school shootings will never be addressed in the US. There’s too much money to be made selling the firearms and related items as well as the things that could theoretically be used to keep the students “safe”

SuckThisRedditAdmins 2025-12-25 06:50

I don't know what model you have but google Model 3 back seat emergency cable

SuckThisRedditAdmins 2025-12-25 06:51

Hey, I own a Tesla and fucking hate it - believe me I'm not defending it. It, like a million other things they do, is fucking stupid

No-Share1561 2025-12-25 06:53

Yes. They work

justthegrimm 2025-12-25 07:46

It is but should not have to be a necessity in your car just due to shitty design.

becibod934 2025-12-25 08:25

I bought one that was specifically made for the cyber truck and for double laminated glass. Haven’t tried it but I hope it works if I ever need it Here’s the link: https://a.co/d/bS28fLA

Ok-Bill3318 2025-12-25 08:49

Good luck cybertruck owners. You’ll need a big metal ball

ctei0421 2025-12-25 09:01

You really have to be brave to drive around in a Nazi's car while on ketamine.

IsolatedFrequency101 2025-12-25 09:10

Or buy a different car brand.

Smartimess 2025-12-25 09:21

That‘s because Nissan does not have a CEO that always engineers via the rule of cool. The X wings are shit. He doesn‘t like door handles, so get rid of them. Or my favourite, the engineers at Space X have to spent dozens of hours to polish and paint the rocket engine black, because some idiot asked Musk once, which one he wants.

OilAdministrative197 2025-12-25 11:17

The rational free market

tanbyte 2025-12-25 11:40

Its pathetic to have to do this all coz elmo wanted cool handles

ScoobyGDSTi 2025-12-25 12:13

An ad in white supremacist monthly should reach the target audience

lkeltner 2025-12-25 12:32

Ok found this, so maybe it does it exist, but it's literally not accessible without disassembly and installing more parts. 2023 Model 3 no longer has manual door release in rear [never had them], other changes | Tesla Motors Club https://share.google/GCJqJHfLsB7HMSLtb

FarFromHomey 2025-12-25 13:14

Where are the LAWSUITS? NTSB? NHTSA? Unsafe Vehicles Used to not be ALLOWED.

TONNAGE1975 2025-12-25 14:00

I owned a 2022 Model 3 for 3.5 years and couldn’t find any emergency release latches. The guy in the YouTube video couldn’t find them either. https://youtube.com/shorts/RUp1IRtgkxs?si=qyV7uI7IMCD20fHU

fossilnews 2025-12-25 15:23

Look if you go into a lake you aren't opening the doors against the force of the water. A glass break tool is useful in other situations.

SuddenBurger 2025-12-25 15:59

Tesla actually offer their own insurance for their cars as an option since some insurance companies refuse to cover some cars, like the Cybertruck. So if you use their insurance they do make the call on whether to pay you or not.

bootstrapping_lad 2025-12-25 16:21

Another option is not buying a Tesla.

wongl888 2025-12-25 16:52

Heaven forbid, a door handle might allow someone to survive a fire and maybe MElon doesn’t want any liabilities from survivors?

wongl888 2025-12-25 16:54

Good point, the electric door probably locks wouldn’t work in water.

wongl888 2025-12-25 16:57

Ah but Tesla are supposedly different from shitty Nissans. Perhaps they have ambitions to be better than a Nissan, then again perhaps they want to be worse?

ArQ7777 2025-12-25 16:57

More and more people in the world are choosing this option.

wongl888 2025-12-25 16:57

The old adage “trying to reinvent the wheel”.

Sticka-D 2025-12-25 17:50

Nazi mobiles are shit.

zzbear03 2025-12-25 17:53

…With a square block!

gwestr 2025-12-25 18:29

It should just come with one.

SuckThisRedditAdmins 2025-12-25 21:03

Completely stupid design

AbjectList8 2025-12-25 21:28

I have 2 within reach, just in case. Def a paranoia of mine

Sufficient-Pie-7815 2025-12-25 21:37

thebannedtoo 2025-12-26 00:16

Emergency tool = new car

No-Share1561 2025-12-26 07:26

I have first hand experience. They work.

General-Bend1129 2025-12-26 08:54

Should just ditch the car and buy into a proper brand

Slytherin23 2025-12-26 09:52

Has anyone here ever been trapped in a Tesla where both the electronic and emergency exit failed?

CetisLupedis 2025-12-26 17:00

No, those people burned to death in their Tesla.

nlaak 2025-12-26 17:07

> It will shatter the glass allowing you to kick it out. Tell that to the first responders that have been unable to get people out of Teslas.

nlaak 2025-12-26 17:10

> My Model 3 has been the highest quality vehicle of all I've owned There's always someone who thinks their anecdote trumps the actual worldwide statistics.

ArQ7777 2025-12-26 17:12

If that happened, no one can escape.

nlaak 2025-12-26 17:13

There was a story about a husband getting stuck in, IIRC, a CyberTruck for hours because he either didn't have his phone with him or it wasn't charger or some such and his wife didn't come looking for him. A quick search found [this](https://www.thecooldown.com/green-home/tesla-cybertruck-manual-door-lock-issue/), though I know this wasn't the article I read. He could have easily died like a dog or a baby trapped in a car.

fossilnews 2025-12-26 17:27

Do you have a link to a story about first responders unable to break Tesla glass? I'd be interested in reading it.

animefanabc 2025-12-27 15:33

Not surprised at all

T1442 2025-12-28 18:14

How can you say that? [No, glass-breaking vehicle escape tools do not work on laminated windows](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsbL388Ay3A)
