Another trillion dollar idea, brilliant!

BringBackUsenet 2025-11-07 16:42

As if the accident rate for Testicles isn't high enough already. If anyone "driving" one of those pieces of shit ever crashes into me, I'm blaming the manufacturer too.

malignantz 2025-11-07 16:43

"Drive from NY to LA by the end of the year" vibes.

luv2block 2025-11-07 16:44

If the dems take back the congress and senate, and they don't go after this guy, then they are just as bad as Trump when it comes to the downfall of America. Given this is the 500th time he's lied to try and increase car sales and keep the stock price up... it's clear he should be charged with securities fraud and for anyone who bought FSD he should have to refund all those purchases.

What could go wrong. It's not like anyone would sue Tesla ... oh wait.

levon999 2025-11-07 16:46

“But officer, Elon said I could text and drive”

DonkeyImpossible316 2025-11-07 16:48

Just waiting for regulatory approval.

biograf_ 2025-11-07 16:49

Sentient flying car next year.

bobaballs 2025-11-07 16:50

So when you crash and the airbag sends the phone straight into your face can you sue them?

Mecha-Dave 2025-11-07 16:51

Most of the Tesla drivers I see are already doing this by mounting their phone up in their windshield (blocking it) so I don't see the difference.

foo-bar-25 2025-11-07 16:51

So 2028. Got it.

Smartimess 2025-11-07 16:51

So 5 to 10 years.

foo-bar-25 2025-11-07 16:52

They won’t. Class over party every single time.

zombieda 2025-11-07 16:52

Why not? The car will be hovering above the traffic, so zero chance of an accident.

LightMission4937 2025-11-07 16:52

Tesla drivers do that now. Then full send into the back of a semi. Texting and dying in a shit box. Nice.

anthraxnapkin 2025-11-07 16:53

Agree 100%. Still waiting on his claims of FSD being fully operational. He made the claim almost 10 years ago, still isn't there. What a joke

Distinct_Plankton_82 2025-11-07 16:54

What’s wild to me is that he thinks this is the killer app for FSD. Surely the killer app is the car can drop the kids off at school while you get ready for work, or the car can drop you at the airport then go park in your own garage, or it can drive you home safely after having a couple of glasses of wine at dinner. Not just texting and driving. To me, what this signals is they’ve got some sort of Level 3 Self Driving planned, where under limited circumstances, you can take your eyes off the road for short periods of time, but the car can’t do end to end trips unsupervised.

SNTCTN 2025-11-07 16:54

Does the law allow that?

Ok_Woodpecker17897 2025-11-07 16:56

Didn’t he say that like 11 years ago?

dntes1 2025-11-07 16:57

Insurrance will be happy to get your money and throw you in courts!

EnvironmentalClue218 2025-11-07 16:59

Isn’t that illegal ?

oldsurfsnapper 2025-11-07 17:01

Sounds like a variation on Trump’s “ within the next two weeks “.

That $1T is already paying off.

IntentionNegative516 2025-11-07 17:04

He kinda burnt the term "FSD" himself - interesting that he keeps bringing it up. Looking at TSLA, this time the flock of sheep doesn't seem to be buying it.

CRXCRZ 2025-11-07 17:05

This will increase sales globally. 🙄

End of Year^TM

d3dmnky 2025-11-07 17:14

Technically you can do that now. The results just might not be great.

Phyllis_Tine 2025-11-07 17:15

Musk just needs to release a Congress version of a Tesla, of course it will be packed full of microphones and videos to record all government data in order for him to benefit. They will fall in line, or at least, the ones who get money from Musk will do all they can to let Musk be able to act with impunity.

December 2015: "We're going to end up with complete autonomy, and I think we will have complete autonomy in approximately two years." Elon Musk Says Tesla Vehicles Will Drive Themselves in Two Years January 2016: "In ~2 years, summon should work anywhere connected by land & not blocked by borders, eg you're in LA and the car is in NY" Elon Musk on Twitter June 2016: "I really consider autonomous driving a solved problem, I think we are less than two years away from complete autonomy, safer than humans, but regulations should take at least another year," Musk said. Two years until self-driving cars are on the road – is Elon Musk right? Jan 23rd 2017: At what point will "Full Self-Driving Capability" features noticeably depart from? Elon: "3 months maybe, 6 months definitely" https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/823727035088416768 March 2017: "I think that [you will be able to fall asleep in a tesla] is about two years" - Transcript of "The future we're building -- and boring" May 7 2017: Update on the coast to coast autopilot demo? Still on for end of year. Just software limited. Any Tesla car with HW2 (all cars built since Oct last year) will be able to do this. https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/866482406160609280 March 2018: "I think probably by end of next year [end of 2019] self-driving will encompass essentially all modes of driving and be at least 100% to 200% safer than a person." SXSW 2018 Nov 15, 2018: "Probably technically be able to [self deliver Teslas to customers doors] in about a year then its up to the regulators" Elon Musk on Twitter Jan 30 2019:  "We need to be at 99.9999..% We need to be extremely reliable. When do we think it is safe for FSD, probably towards the end of this year then its up to the regulators when they will decide to approve that." Tesla Q4 Earnings Call Feb 19 2019: "We will be feature complete full self driving this year. The car will be able to find you in a parking lot, pick you up, take you all the way to your destination without an intervention this year. I'm certain of that. That is not a question mark. It will be essentially safe to fall asleep and wake up at their destination towards the end of next year" On the Road to Full Autonomy With Elon Musk — FYI Podcast April 12th 2019 : "I think it will require detecting hands on wheel for at least six months.... I think this was all really going to be swept, I mean, the system is improving so much, so fast, that this is going to be a moot point very soon. No, in fact, I think it will become very, very quickly, maybe and towards the end this year, but I say, I'd be shocked if not next year, at the latest that having the person, having human intervene will decrease safety. One million robot taxis!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ucp0TTmvqOE May 9th 2019: "We could have gamed an LA/NY Autopilot journey last year, but when we do it this year, everyone with Tesla Full Self-Driving will be able to do it too" April 12th 2020: "Robotaxis release/deployment... Functionality still looking good for this year. Regulatory approval is the big unknown." https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1249210220200550405 April 29th 2020: "we could see robotaxis in operation with the network fleet next year, not in all markets but in some." July 08, 2020: “I’m extremely confident that level five or essentially complete autonomy will happen, and I think, will happen very quickly, I think at Tesla, I feel like we are very close to level five autonomy. I think—I remain confident that we will have the basic functionality for level five autonomy complete this year, There are no fundamental challenges remaining. There are many small problems. And then there's the challenge of solving all those small problems and putting the whole system together.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBysm4_OceI Dec 1, 2020: “I am extremely confident of achieving full autonomy and releasing it to the Tesla customer base next year. But I think at least some jurisdictions are going to allow full self-driving next year.” Axel Springer Award December 5th 2020: "I'm extremely confident that Tesla will have level five next year, extremely confident, 100%" https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-interview-axel-springer-tesla-accelerate-advent-of-sustainable-energy Jan 1, 2021: "Tesla Full Self-Driving will work at a safety level well above that of the average driver this year, of that I am confident. Can’t speak for regulators though." https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1345208391958888448 Jan 27, 2021: "at least 100% safer than a human driver" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yl7tkRqOt7I Dec 2021: "Its looking quite likely that it will be next year!" Beartrkkr 2025-11-07 17:17

Which year?

DreadpirateBG 2025-11-07 17:18

Just stop already Elon. There needs to be some kind of government or SAE review process to validate FSD is ok for release in the roads. Why is this not a huge issue getting addressed. If a person needs to take a driving test so then does a car that drives itself and it needs to be an independent 3 rd party test. At controlled locations.

Impossible_Walrus555 2025-11-07 17:18

“Elon is such a genius” remember him jumping around w Javier Milei and matching chainsaws? Doge twins. 👯

Lacrewpandora 2025-11-07 17:18

>When the car is operating as the cybercab, Tesla will simply self insure. Technoking, Yesterday.

Lowmax2 2025-11-07 17:19

If any of you have watched videos of people using fsd 14, you would realize that it basically is able to drive anywhere with 0 interventions now. texting while the car drives you will be safe. Especially when the cybercab comes out with no steering wheel or pedals. All of these posts will look silly in 2027.

Lacrewpandora 2025-11-07 17:20

Yes.

AndrewRP2 2025-11-07 17:21

DOGE wasn’t to cut spending or costs, it was to shut down the multiple investigations into Musk.

Usual-Language-745 2025-11-07 17:22

Is that what the front seat passenger is testing in the cabs???? That makes a lot of sense.  I really wish the government would step in and force Tesla to change the name of FSD and then ban it until they use LiDAR and Elon musk performs the following test.  A randomly selected customer Tesla is placed at bottom of Pikes Peak in the winter. Elon is bound and gagged in the trunk and the car has to drive to the summit in “mad max mode”.  If he lives he can call it FSD

rubizza 2025-11-07 17:23

Laws? Pfft.

cesarthegreat 2025-11-07 17:23

10 years late is better than never. Have you ever done anything as hard as self driving cars?

Kellster 2025-11-07 17:23

Spoiler alert: no it won’t.

dtyamada 2025-11-07 17:26

Probably not, I'm sure there'll be legalese in FSD ToS. But the car you crash into probably can.

dtyamada 2025-11-07 17:27

April 1! Just another random date ;)

pandershrek 2025-11-07 17:28

Apparently my FSD is 2 years from the future..... 😅🙃🫠

dtyamada 2025-11-07 17:29

Probably not but you think fElon cares about silly things like laws and regulations.

[deleted] 2025-11-07 17:30

Does this guy have a driver shuttle him around?

[deleted] 2025-11-07 17:30

MaxAdolphus 2025-11-07 17:33

Elon also said in 2017 that the Roadster 2 would be released in 2020.

FrozenJackal 2025-11-07 17:34

Full Self Texting Supervised, say anything about Elon he doesn’t like he bricks your car

pacific_beach 2025-11-07 17:34

jregovic 2025-11-07 17:37

Can’t wait for all of the FSD videos where it was the car’s fault for running a red light while the driver was playing Doodle Jump.

sidc42 2025-11-07 17:40

Wrong question. Musk is a man of the stars. The right question is, on which planet? A year on Mars is 1.88 Earth years. A year on Pluto is 248 Earth years. So when he said next year 10+ years ago realize if he's talking about Pluto years, he's got another 230+ Earth years or so to get this shit ironed out.

[deleted] 2025-11-07 17:40

olyfrijole 2025-11-07 17:53

Just watched a Tesla haul ass through a long standing red light. If Tesla drivers buy the hype, it's only going to get worse. And it's already the most dangerous brand on the road.

redditnobodys 2025-11-07 17:54

Except it’s illegal in Missouri and most states. And it’s going to result in more liability for Tesla.

kineticdeck 2025-11-07 17:56

Easy problem to solve. These cars are so safe, we’ll remove the airbags

GlassHeart09 2025-11-07 18:03

VitaminPb 2025-11-07 18:04

So in November, “A month or two” is the hip new way to say “By the end of the year.” Got it.

dtyamada 2025-11-07 18:04

The reports of Teslas on FSD ignoring flashing lights at railway crossings should be concerning to users. It really is amazing how much simple stuff it screws up.

You gave Trump hundreds of millions of dollars and took big PR bullets for him... Trump controls all aspects of the government now. You had your spat but now seem to be allies again. There is no way you can claim that "regulators" are keeping you down anymore.

frudi 2025-11-07 18:29

To be fair, texting while driving is in fact a killer feature.

luv2block 2025-11-07 18:37

Because the dems present themselves as people who care about law and order and non-corrupt government. So those are the standards people expect them to live up to. Trump presents himself as a racist rapist narcassist, so obviously there's literally no standard there. Do you want us to start only being critical of the dems if they engage in racism and rape?

But it won't be FSD's fault if you crash and die because you aren't paying attention.

QVRedit 2025-11-07 19:41

That’s illegal in many countries. And will remain illegal, so people will still be prosecuted for it. Rack up enough points and they will be given a driving ban.

QVRedit 2025-11-07 19:41

TheImpPaysHisDebts 2025-11-07 21:26

I think his lawyers in the past have claimed his comments and claims as "puffery" stating that nobody actually believes them as factual. So if he continues to make outlandish claims it further proves the point. He's also USUALLY careful with words like "should be able to" or "in about x time frame". I don't think he's ever said "I guarantee you will be able to..." (HW3 comments aside).

The Tesla that did a California stop at a sign last week and nearly ran me off the road would like to have a word with you.

nzlax 2025-11-07 21:32

Closed. Lucky Elon

Joker-Smurf 2025-11-07 21:35

Damn… they went from “level 5 next year” in December 2020 to “level four next year” in December 2021. It’s going fucking backwards.

Joker-Smurf 2025-11-07 21:38

They are correct. It is time to start healing. BUT, the only way to heal is to excise the fucking cancer first.

friendIdiglove 2025-11-07 21:41

I call that “Uber-style” because almost every rideshare driver has a ProMax-sized phone mounted directly in the middle of the windshield.

IcyHowl4540 2025-11-07 21:54

MFW you can break both the speed limit and the texting-while-driving laws at the same time in Mad Max mode: [https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR0\_xyOpOvHjuxdAv\_hx\_mARQ\_EtBbNQ-Jj9Q&s](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR0_xyOpOvHjuxdAv_hx_mARQ_EtBbNQ-Jj9Q&s)

milom 2025-11-07 22:05

That is literally "next year" :P

Zari_Vanguard1992 2025-11-07 22:06

His month (so in a century or never) or our month?

ZeusTKP 2025-11-07 22:09

Literally 100% odds that this is false. Sun not rising tomorrow is more likely.

Guy_Smylee 2025-11-07 22:13

He says a lot of things.

_Captain_Amazing_ 2025-11-07 22:19

And in related news, the Brooklyn Bridge is for sale and I’ve got some great swampland in Florida for you.

Old-Proof4169 2025-11-07 22:19

Yes because they removed the department that regulated this. Higher death rate from crashes incoming

dorchet 2025-11-07 22:21

are all of the states going to make texting and driving legal ? no? then still illegal.

ipub 2025-11-07 23:05

Trust me bro. Btw got any money?

MrFyxet99 2025-11-07 23:13

In states with distracted driving laws, you will still get a traffic infraction for texting while driving wether FSD allows it or not.

hecramsey 2025-11-07 23:22

"There will never be FSD. never. EVER. Period. stop asking me" There fixed it

obefiend 2025-11-08 00:11

Lies

Fuzzy_Inevitable9748 2025-11-08 00:21

Mars could use one, and a ship full of billionaires. According to the stuff they claim, if we sent a ship full of them and bootstraps, they would be able to terraform mars and have an economy that surpasses earth in a couple of years. I personally think it is far too cruel that we hold back billionaires and we need to set them free from the shackles of earth.

gojiro0 2025-11-08 00:43

While companies like Waymo (just took my first ride and I'm amazed) are already out on the road making money and racking up the miles

Noonewantsyourapp 2025-11-08 01:06

Isn’t that ignoring the many investigations and court cases he was facing under the Biden administration?   You’re literally saying “both sides same” in response to a discussion of how one side stopped investigations commenced by the other side.

MrCompletely345 2025-11-08 01:18

Two weeks.

MrCompletely345 2025-11-08 01:19

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Goes_to_Mars A short story about Dan Quayle getting “volunteer’d” to be the first settler, and I believe it stops there, with him alone on Mars.

vxicepickxv 2025-11-08 01:51

Neither has he. He's a con man, and you're a mark.

ClassBShareHolder 2025-11-08 01:52

Does he really think lying is going to achieve the goals he needs to earn his $1Trillion? You can only scam people so long. Anybody that’s bought into the “myth of Elon” is already invested. Nobody else is buying his bullshit.

vxicepickxv 2025-11-08 01:52

Yes. Yes it is.

vxicepickxv 2025-11-08 01:56

Okay nazi worshiper.

oh_woo_fee 2025-11-08 02:02

Elon is a dumbass

BringBackUsenet 2025-11-08 02:47

Mars does.

BringBackUsenet 2025-11-08 02:49

\>So it's not really FSD now? Yes, it's Full Self-Delusion.

BringBackUsenet 2025-11-08 02:49

I used to see people reading the paper while driving, and that was back in the 1980s!

Vegetable_Guest_8584 2025-11-08 02:57

Note he didn't say what year. Anyway, this is impossible with current technology and laws.

OriginalLie9310 2025-11-08 03:30

Doesn’t “self insure” pretty much just mean pay enormous settlements for crashes we cause?

Lacrewpandora 2025-11-08 03:40

I'm not even sure its a concept allowed on the public roadways...at least not the traditional concept of self-insuring. I suppose it could mean TSLA will purchase insurance for its robotaxis. I don't think it really matters though, since there won't ever be TSLA Robotaxis driving themselves around.

RidingtheRoad 2025-11-08 03:43

Pumping the stock..again.

andre_in_sandiego 2025-11-08 03:57

Dude is a 🤡

PrestigiousHippo7 2025-11-08 04:51

I already see it a year ago.

ionizing_chicanery 2025-11-08 05:39

Unless there's a video of it driving hundreds of thousands of miles across all sorts of conditions that's not good enough.

dtyamada 2025-11-08 06:50

Trying to at least

dtyamada 2025-11-08 06:51

Tesla definitely aint taking responsibility for fsd so its not happening. Just more corporate puffery

Wanno1 2025-11-08 06:53

Vapor

dtyamada 2025-11-08 07:03

Imagine if they had a switch on the steering wheel that could turn them on or off. That would be a novel concept 🤣

TheRealDonSherry 2025-11-08 08:04

The race is on!!!! Winds of Winter first or FSD? Stay tuned to find out!

jailtheorange1 2025-11-08 09:32

People need to just stop believing this absolute bullshitter

jailtheorange1 2025-11-08 09:34

But the people who want to do that already do it, so…

Makeshift-human 2025-11-08 10:23

In a month or two, so it's next year as always but this time it will happen for Sure /s

ComicsEtAl 2025-11-08 12:34

Normally you can only con people so long. But the shareholders’ relationship with Elon seems to be a clear exception to the rule.

ClassBShareHolder 2025-11-08 13:51

But if I understand the deal, he needs to draw more people in and increase sales. He’s got a pretty solid base of support, but can he really grow it without delivering anything but promises?

Scary-Problem-5578 2025-11-08 15:02

This a great idea! It’s annoying and FSD is legit

Incontinentiasuma 2025-11-08 16:14

Yes, and it will take you to a space station so you can hop on a rocket to Alpha Centauri.

ExcitingMeet2443 2025-11-08 16:33

Texting and ~~driving~~ dying

DamnUOnions 2025-11-08 18:04

So….. exactly what I can do with my BMW Driving Assistant on normal roads? Wow Elon. Excellent.

dtyamada 2025-11-08 20:56

Except worse. Cuz it's not actually good enough to keep you safe.

GurCompetitive7633 2025-11-08 21:33

They just started adding back turning stalks to the Model 3, soooo

rruusu 2025-11-08 21:35

Month or two? Is that like 5-10 years in human years?

Icy-person666 2025-11-08 23:44

I thought it has for years?

LowInteraction9422 2025-11-09 01:55

Wow, you got me. Nobody on the nerd side of reddit has ever worked on a technology. I worked on a robot that navigates tanks holding nuclear waste, including waste from the Manhattan Project. But sure, the iPad car is nice.

LowInteraction9422 2025-11-09 02:00

The posts will always look silly 2 years from now.

Bikesandhacks 2025-11-09 05:04

I commute an hour to and from work everyday and all I do is push a button. It's been working without error for the last 2 months at least. I wouldn't trade my tesla for a Bentley - not thinking about driving for those 2 hours a day is priceless and I know a few friends that feel the same.

Bikesandhacks 2025-11-09 05:06

They're not using FSD. As it's gotten better, it's also better at making sure you pay attention. I can't even look at the navigation screen for more than 5 seconds without a beep.

NotFromMilkyWay 2025-11-09 06:25

I mean he doesn't say that it's going to be a long text.

meltbox 2025-11-09 07:49

It’s inconceivable that he provided forward looking statements without qualification in earnings calls and is not in jail. They were blatant, impossible, and multiple times. How people think this man is smart is beyond me.

meltbox 2025-11-09 07:57

Did you forget that the republicans literally called themselves the party of law and order? Just because Trump is terrible doesn’t mean that democrats should have to do more just because they are democrats. But I also will be deeply disappointed if they don’t do miles better.

anthraxnapkin 2025-11-09 08:58

Oh are u able to close your eyes or sleep? Sit in the backseat? Keep your hands off the wheel? Rent your car out like a taxi? Sure it's nice but it's not what I paid for or was promised by the CEO, not by a long shot.

Ok_Win_2906 2025-11-09 11:49

Waymo has never made money . What are you talking about ?

Ok_Win_2906 2025-11-09 11:52

Only on freeways .

keyboardsandkeywords 2025-11-09 13:53

My fsd drives better than me, i literally do nothing but keep my eyes open.

bdl4186 2025-11-09 15:13

Ran this through the Elon Truth Translation Machine and it produced: "FSD will never allow texting and driving"

uosiek 2025-11-09 17:20

Can we put it on the list with the rest of predictions? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_predictions_for_autonomous_Tesla_vehicles_by_Elon_Musk?wprov=sfti1#

gojiro0 2025-11-09 17:46

eh, meant that they're already taking fares in a working model while collecting data about that model and improving, while Tesler is still talking about texting and driving in the next six months

ripetrichomes 2025-11-09 17:47

that says more about how bad a driver you are than how good a driver your tesla is

LowInteraction9422 2025-11-09 20:29

Don't cars commonly have "speak to text" options?

torokunai 2025-11-09 22:24

> extremely confident Elon puts the con in con man

torokunai 2025-11-09 22:25

also just being able to (safely) take a nap on long trips. That would be great and worth the $8000 or whatever.

al2o3cr 2025-11-10 02:38

>Surely the killer app is the car can drop the kids off at school His target demographic didn't get custody of the kids

Busy-Explanation4339 2025-11-10 03:13

Two million robotaxis by the end of 2020.

whatnameblahblah 2025-11-10 13:19

The car already does that as he showed when he responded to that woman on twitter by telling her what she had done to try get out of the car when she was locked inside. Was in big alon simp era so was mostly overlooked apart from here in the megathread.

[deleted] 2025-11-11 03:56

Uh, what?

Lichensuperfood 2025-11-11 22:29

All cars allow texting while driving. It is the state traffic laws and concrete lamp posts to hit, that are the determining factors here.

Retox86 2025-11-13 15:08

Well, he said Tesla FSD will allow it, not that you should do it or that its legal.

Retox86 2025-11-13 15:09

Thats not Elon or Teslas problem. He could just aswell say Tesla FSD will allow you to murder your passenger while driving, still illegal tho.

Neil_LP 2025-11-13 15:21

Your username checks out

y4udothistome 2025-11-13 15:33

I got 4000 acres of swampland just off the coast of Rica all yours for 10,000 an acre

frodogrotto 2025-11-13 15:50

As Elon said in 2013 in an interview with Kevin Rose “If you give yourself 10 years to do something, it’s going to take 10 years. If you give yourself a year, you’ll probably get it done in a year.” Trust me… I know how annoying it is to look at all these quotes in the original comment and see how wrong he was. It feels like he was just lying straight to our faces. BUT, would you rather him say it will take 2 years and it ends up taking 10 years, or have him say it will take 20 years and it does take 20 years?

EstateAlternative416 2025-11-13 20:09

By your logic, there should be no humans driving.

ionizing_chicanery 2025-11-13 20:17

For having a standard that's comparable to human drivers? Nonsense. Years ago Elon talked about how a "march of nines" in reliability necessary for unsupervised autonomous driving. Since then he and the Tesla bulls all seem to have collectively forgot about even trying to measure this let alone demonstrate it. And some Youtube videos sure as shit aren't doing so.

royblair 2025-11-13 20:47

I’m sorry everyone is so rude to you OP. I generally agree with your sentiments I would add almost in front of zero interventions. And the cyber cab is still a working in progress. I agree that texting is safe, in most situations and will probably be on a text at your own risk as far as the law is concerned within a couple of months.

ripetrichomes 2025-11-13 21:17

For me, I’ve had the opposite results. It’s gotten me from my driveway to work with 0 interventions 4 out of 4 times for the first time ever (13 couldn’t do it).
