Nah, they always run extra large rebates, 0% interest loans and other incentives. I think many buyers know this and simply wait for it. Which means they are basically ruining their own sales in the first two months of the quarter, and are now forced to do a firesale in the last month to try to salvage it. Its not suspicious, just stupid.

When the September numbers came out, all the Tesla idiots were like "best selling model again! We're so back on!!!1!1!1!1". Cool, October numbers are out, and they're abysmal. They sold 1728 cars in September, and 134 in October. Looking at YTD sales in Sweden, Tesla is the #5 EV brand, and the Model Y is the #3 EV model.

As the most recent example, they ran a promotion in Denmark in the end of Q3 where they paid 25.000 DKK (around 3900 USD) extra for any traded-in vehicle when buying a Tesla. That ended, and sales plummeted again. I can promise you right now that in december there will be some sort of discount to boost sales. Whether its 0% interest, free supercharging for a year or something else, remains to be seen. But there will be something.

Extreme short-termism, typically used by a company circling the drain to generate quick cash to pay the most pressing bills—ask me how I know!— and by companies trying to look good to a prospective buyer who won’t know they bought a lemon of a company until it’s too late—again, I have been unlucky enough to work for such owners, and damn if they weren’t all Limbaugh or Apprentice or Sarah Palin fans…

Tesla's greatest achievement is arguably their financial engineering. They have always gamed the reporting dates (something most listed companies do to an extent, but Tesla has taken it to another level). I'd not be at all surprised if they pushed sales into the back end of each quarter and slow paid suppliers into the start of the next quarter in order to juice their reported cash balances for their SEC filings. A strategy which works when sales are growing....

My theory is that some guy from Vienna brought it to Denmark so they called it "wienerbrød" or "bread from Vienna". Then some Dane brought it to the US and they called it "Danish" - I guess "Danebread" would have been better...

No need to theorize, since its well-know that bakers from Austria were encouraged to come work in Denmark in the 1850's and they brought their own recipies and methods. There was a big strike among Danish bakers, so bakery owners brought in Austrian bakers to do the job instead. The recipies were adapted to local taste and became very popular. Then in the first part of the 1900's it was brought to the US by Danish immigrants, explaining why its called Danish, because it was at first sold primarily in Danish bakeries in the US.
