Elon Musk says he needs $1 trillion to control Tesla’s robot army. Yes, really.

Dwesaqe | 2025-10-23 09:04 | 1417 views

>My fundamental concern with regard to how much money and control I have at Tesla is if I go ahead and build this enormous robot army, can I just be ousted at some point in the future? Um, that’s my biggest concern, that is really the only thing Im trying to address with this… what’s called compensation but it’s not like I’m gonna go spend the money, it’s just if we build this robot army do I have at least a strong influence over that robot army? Not control but a strong influence. Elon Musk, Tesla Q3 shareholder conference call, October 22, 2025

This fucking idiot doesn’t realise he’s just an employee. Nobody gets to say this. Imagine if another Tesla employee said “I’m not working on any projects for Tesla unless you give me a trillion dollars.” He should be fired immediately. Stupid idiot conceited self obsessed man child.

SisterOfBattIe 2025-10-23 09:10

>For his part, Musk has stated repeatedly that he wants this award not for money, but for more control over the company, because he “doesn’t feel comfortable” building AI unless he has more control over it (in keeping with this mentality, Musk started his own private AI company, xAI, to compete with Tesla, which is [likely illegal](https://electrek.co/2025/10/17/tesla-investing-in-xai-the-good-the-bad-the-ugly/#h-the-ugly)). The richest man in the world, that stated he wants to be the world first trillionare, claims he wants a trillion, but not because the money, but because he want to control the humanoid robot built by his EV car manufacturer, OR ELSE he keeps working on the xAI company he created that competes directly with the car manufacturer that build robot that would need xAI software to run, and from which he is poaching talent and equipment. I can't even.

toi80QC 2025-10-23 09:12

An army of robots, probably all connected via StarLink and "strongly influenced" by a psychotic billionaire? What could possibly go wrong

RidingtheRoad 2025-10-23 09:12

Musk is fantasising again...Was there supposed to be "legions" of them by now? Is there even one fully functional robot at the moment?

pelfinho 2025-10-23 09:14

In this case, not much.  The aforementioned robots are nothing but vaporware. If they’re the ones leading the robot uprising, I think we’ll be safe.

richardbaxter 2025-10-23 09:16

Building 180,000 of these things before a single 1 can do anything particularly useful feels like the wrong strategy. But don't worry there's some storage next to all those cyber trucks!

SadSeiko 2025-10-23 09:17

The thing with tesla is they're not a weapons manufacturer and they can barely make a car. He's like a dumber version of Justin Hammer (the villain in iron man 2)

michalzxc 2025-10-23 09:17

And that is how you negotiate yours salary! "I dont want more money, but it would be unfortunate if something would happen to..."

This is how capitalism eats itself. The oligarchs lose all touch with what is reasonable. These guys are begging the general population to reject capitalism and embrace any system that revokes wealth from the oligarchs.

he will be long dead any of this even materializes. man watches too many sci-fi movies. his retail investor cult is cringe at best for defending this guy lmao, he is clearly unhinged

SolutionWarm6576 2025-10-23 09:42

I remember when Enron started their Broadband division. They even had videos of their Cable technicians, with their service trucks, in neighborhoods, looking like they were actually working. It was all fake.

punktualPorcupine 2025-10-23 09:43

And almost always puppeted by humans remotely. Replacing humans with robots, run by other humans.

punktualPorcupine 2025-10-23 09:47

And he was supposed to be king of mars. Maybe he could send his remote-bots to mars to build a remotely operated colony.

Fuskeduske 2025-10-23 09:49

There is a reason they didn't want to compete in the robot games in China

punktualPorcupine 2025-10-23 09:50

If Elon is running skynet we have nothing to fear. His threats are as empty as his engineering resume.

fwzy_34 2025-10-23 09:51

So...why not create shares with more voting rights? If you care about voting and not a trillion dollars.

RaymondBumcheese 2025-10-23 09:54

I saw someone recently point out that the most unrealistic part of Terminator 2 is that the rich tech guy actually listens to someone and tries to help.

DEADB33F 2025-10-23 09:55

The tens of thousands of unwanted Cybertrucks will make for convenient storage for the tens of thousands of unwanted robots they're about to produce.

PeterHickman 2025-10-23 10:03

Well each CT has 5 seats, perhaps we could stuff a robot or two in the trunk. So 7 robots per CT with around an estimated 10,000 unsold so 70,000 robots before you need to find new storage space

CunningWizard 2025-10-23 10:03

It’s quite interesting watching a nepo midwit come to terms with the things he has realized. Almost like Slave driving a large number of engineers relentlessly with no regard for societal implications to build the things he sketched in his high school diary might not have been the smartest thing in the long run. Just a thought.

skoalbrother 2025-10-23 10:03

This is the one good thing about all this.. normal people won't be able to deny that capitalism is cancer

Qimmosabe_Man 2025-10-23 10:09

Someone should tell him to stop using ketamine so he wouldn't be saying stupid douchbag shit.

RoadsideCouchCushion 2025-10-23 10:09

I love the fact that bipedal movement in a robot is about the worst possible way to configure a robot, but Elon is all in. Everyone seems to forget that Hyundai owns a majority of Boston Dynamics which is light years ahead of Tesla.

Sweetlittle66 2025-10-23 10:15

Things would be going spectacularly well for him if only he could keep his mouth shut

Radical_Neutral_76 2025-10-23 10:17

skoalbrother 2025-10-23 10:19

DEADB33F 2025-10-23 10:44

The vehicle division could then bill the robot division for storage, meaning the company would see an overall net increase in gross revenues. ...Given some usual Musk spin and Teslanomics this should result in a significant boost to share prices!

Radical_Neutral_76 2025-10-23 10:44

Late stage capitalism is not really what is happening. Consolidation of power/resources has happened many times before. When the populace is pressured enough it leads to uprising, demands of change which when granted starts a new era, and the elites resources are redistributed among the people. We are currently at the end of the democratic-market economy era which started around the french revolution. The elites has managed to subdue the people through subverting the democratic process, by promoting completely inept political leaders, trained to gaslight the people they are supposed to serve. Noone knows what comes after this but its possible and likely that it will be affected strongly by AI. Possibly some kind of implementation of planned economics based on AI? The elites wont let go of their power easily so… there will be blood.

So what he's scared he won't be able to brainwash and manipulate thr robots like he does to humans?

Holiday_Package_5375 2025-10-23 11:42

Trillionaire

RelationshipDue4495 2025-10-23 11:47

Rather than give Elon a trillion dollar pay package, can't Tesla just change their share structure and add a second category of shares just for him, with greater voting rights? Both Google and Facebook did this for their founders, Brin, Page and Zuckerberg. Zuck controls 58% of Meta's voting shares but only 14% of the economic interest. It's not great, but surely that is a better example than Musk's proposed package which when vested would significantly dilute the existing shareholders? It seems terrible corporate governance to award a pay deal equivalent to the GDP of Switzerland. Jensen Huang has overseen a much bigger shareholder value creation at NVIDIA. Should he get a $2 trillion pay deal?

soldieroscar 2025-10-23 11:49

Nobody wants this. It can go away.

Blank3k 2025-10-23 11:50

So a Robot army that'll self destruct if Elon ever loses his supreme emperor status?

TweezerTheRetriever 2025-10-23 11:55

So if the trillionaire dollar pay goes through who sees a stock sell off?…..and will Elmo be the one buying up shares at a discount once it crashes hard?…. See it emerge from the ashes in ten years but he’ll have 51% by then

War_Fries 2025-10-23 11:58

And the grifter continues to grift. Musk might be the biggest fraud ever. I've read that a lot of investors and shareholders weren't pleased with Musk's performance at this conference call. He was rambling about robots and AI, but not a word about a [37% drop](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/oct/22/tesla-earnings-report-latest-drop-profits/) in profits for Tesla. If there are any Tesla shareholders and investors lurking... Tesla is a bubble that will burst some day. Musk is a fraud. He will lie and cheat and deceive to get more money, while not delivering on his promises. This is Musk's modus operandi, and he is not going to change. Because. He. Is. Not. A. Genius. He is a fraud.

Bi0H4z4rD667 2025-10-23 12:01

Yeah, he always wants more money but never delivers anything useful or that doesnt kill its users. I hope non-darwinian individuals keep showering him with money and support.

I swear these guys watched sci-fi movies and took the opposite lessons away from it.

hypercomms2001 2025-10-23 12:25

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:07

DogHairIceCream 2025-10-23 13:08

Elon Musk was in Iron Man 2. He played Elon Musk.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:09

He sure has a grossly hyperinflated opinion of himself. He's out of touch with reality and should be committed.

jregovic 2025-10-23 13:10

Which is funny, because in a world with Tony Stark, Elon Musk would never have happened.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:10

Just because his products don't work, doesn't mean they can't cause a lot of damage. FSD being a perfect example.

jregovic 2025-10-23 13:11

But you could probably point some strobe lights at them and they’d fight the shadows.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:12

We need attention to point out the dangerous products he produces. People need to stop feeding him with money!

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:12

Get your ass to Mars!

foo-bar-25 2025-10-23 13:12

He was effective when it came to stealing our data. Better to keep him away from opportunities to do harm.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:13

Like the fake solar houses?

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:16

Capitalism when it's allowed to function will cause those who are out of touch to lose their wealth. Musk didn't earn his wealth though capitalism. He stole it using governmafia subsidies and outright fraud.

Geetzromo 2025-10-23 13:16

If ever there was someone who should NOT be in charge of a robot army, it’s Elon Musk.

shiroandae 2025-10-23 13:16

So shareholders are supposed to pay him a trillion dollars so he can build his own private robot army. Got it. Makes sense. Realistic timeline we live in.

Mother_Idea_3182 2025-10-23 13:17

They are going to put ultra efficient solar panels capable of extracting energy even from lunar light. Elmo had the idea while floating in the sky the other day.

stellae-fons 2025-10-23 13:18

I think we should drop him and Peter Thiel on a remote island together and televise it.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:18

\> Late stage capitalism is not really what is happening. Fascist cronyism is what is happening alongside bits of patronizing socialist concepts just to add more fuel to the fire.

Isn’t this robot army literally just a bunch of guys in spandex robot suits?

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:23

In order to make robotaxis there will need to be a true FSD. You know the one that will be ready next year?

SuperF91EX 2025-10-23 13:26

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:27

Poor compensation packages are one of the main reasons for the failings of so many large corporations and the enshittification that his taking place everywhere. Execs need to have a real incentive to do what is in the interest of investors rather than giving them a means to loot the company and parachute out. This means the top execs should all have their own skin in the game, and a sizable enough amount that the long term viability of the company is also their own.

seabass_goes_rawr 2025-10-23 13:28

I think the world would do some good to lock/send Elon away for a little bit as an experiment and see how well us companies thrive without him. So we can all put to rest the idea that he’s the one and only

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:30

Tesla has no investors. It has speculators, thus the bubble. It's the Bigger-Fool theory in action. I can't wait to see who gets stuck holding the bag.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:31

He should volunteer to be the first guinea pig for Neuralink.

Common-Violinist-305 2025-10-23 13:34

what could go wrong

UndertakerFred 2025-10-23 13:37

Yeah. You’d think that the idea of someone saying they want to control an artificial intelligence robot army would be terrifying, but the good news is that it’s Elon Musk, so they will be perpetually “sometime next year”

NacogdochesTom 2025-10-23 13:40

"It's not like I'm going to spend the money, I just want it for influence and power." Yeah, we know that.

TriccepsBrachiali 2025-10-23 13:41

Well, his dreams sure changed over time, but if its one thing the guy excels in it is overpromising and underdelivering. Not too worried about robot army.

mikefjr1300 2025-10-23 13:44

Its on par with decade old Robotaxi claims and defective FSD platform.

Radical_Neutral_76 2025-10-23 13:52

Just a side effect of the aforementioned imho. In a functional democracy, those ideologies wouldnt get any traction. Same happened last time. Before WW2

[deleted] 2025-10-23 13:58

And it is incredibly sad that Tony stark was modeled party off elmo...must have gone to his head before the ketamine turned it to Swiss cheese. Same thing happened to my neighbor from high-school, the guy snorted a whole bag of K, got stuck in a K hole, and never fully came out.

dtyamada 2025-10-23 13:58

If it's not about money then all they need to do is convert his shares to ones with more voting rights. That doesn't dilute the share pool while still giving him the control he wants. It's all about the money.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:59

Democracy only leads to kleptocracy. Everyone voting for the one that promises to give them what they want for "free". Remember that Hitler was elected!

Radical_Neutral_76 2025-10-23 14:07

If the politicians dont belong to an industry, governemental branch, defence etc, but career politicians. Yes. Politicians should have a max duration, and have actual experience and *stake* in something. Career politicians are the reason it has turned out like this

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 14:10

Term limits do nothing to help. They only encourage them to loot as much as possible while they can. Mexico being a perfect example. The system fails because the voters are too greedy and/or incompetent, and believe the false promises.

MyKneeGrows 2025-10-23 14:10

So his primary concern is control of robot army, and we are to believe his very next priority was waste, fraud and abuse in the American government?

base2-1000101 2025-10-23 14:11

I will eat a pound of shit if Tesla deploys a robot with general intelligence that I can use to automate home chores. I cannot fucking BELIEVE that anyone takes him seriously.

zachg 2025-10-23 14:21

He's learned from his mistake: see OpenAI. Even PayPal experience

Full_Rip2239 2025-10-23 14:23

By his compensation plan, Meta and Nvidia should compensate their CEOs with 200B each first, since they did such a great job. And yet neither asked for it, same for Apple CEO, he basically propelled Apple to 3~4 Trillion and got like 1 Billion only. Only Elon Musk has such ludicrous reasonings to justify his compensation 🙃

LAPL620 2025-10-23 14:24

Did this seriously just occur to him now? Has he not seen terminator? Any of them?

UbiquitouSparky 2025-10-23 14:26

9fingfing 2025-10-23 14:30

They want all the .benefits from Capitalism and none of the rules.

[deleted] 2025-10-23 14:38

I guess they're going to replace the military with Robots because they don't have the ability to say "no".

phnrbn 2025-10-23 14:43

If it about the control, not money, why does Musk keep selling his shares and asking for more? Like bro you had a higher percentage till you sold it to buy twitter, tunnels, spaceships etc. It is in fact, about the money

ridukosennin 2025-10-23 14:43

Can’t they give him special shares with more voting power instead of a trillion dollars?

ConversationPale8665 2025-10-23 14:55

I just saw this covered on CNBC this morning and Jim Cramer literally can’t stop singing Musk’s praises. What world are these people living in where a guy like Musk, says I want to have significant influence over this robot army I’m building, so pay me more, and the financial news just glazes the f*** out of him for being some revolutionary genius. There are red flags all over the place and everyone is just like, “MoNEy gOoD”.

CompetitiveCrab5459 2025-10-23 14:57

For now fsd needs to be monitored so it will be done by optimus robots

DogHairIceCream 2025-10-23 14:58

He did happen. He was in Iron Man 2. He played Elon Musk.

RelationshipDue4495 2025-10-23 15:02

He already owned $100B plus of shares and his last award (going through the courts) was $56B. How much more financial incentive does he need? A trillion dollars will dwarf any other CEO pay award in history.

ConversationPale8665 2025-10-23 15:03

In other news, is there a way to invest in the S&P500 and somehow exclude Tesla? It really concerns me how poorly this company is run and I don’t buy into all the things they tout as opening up huge markets going forward (robots and full self driving may happen at some point, but not from Tesla). I also worry that their financial reporting is unreliable; the amount of pressure on the finance and accounting depts to publish good numbers is probably astronomical…

ConversationPale8665 2025-10-23 15:05

Maybe you get a free robot family with every CyberTruck purchase?

FutureBiotechVenture 2025-10-23 15:09

That was the most bonkers earnings call I have ever heard. So embarrassing, so awful. Self-contradictory and inconsistent. The whole robot army thing, seriously. (wildly pathetic and cringe) The psychology of the faithful is a case study for the future!!

dtyamada 2025-10-23 15:15

Agreed. And no one ever follows up asking him about that whenever he says "it's about control"

BOD is in his pocket. The equity research guys work for the banks and aren’t going to call him out on his bullshit. The only investors allowed to ask questions in calls is very friendly shareholders (Cathy Wood/ARK etc). There is no Indipendent corporate governance here at all.

Hmmm, wonder if this is a sign to reconsider investing self-storage units like was popular a while ago.

Go build your robot army at another company - you’ll still keep your Tesla shares and keep being the CEO, if you want. You’re doing this for other companies, so why not?

Correct and he’s been more than fairly compensated for his half finished project. Now he needs to get it together if he wants to be paid for the work. Would you pay me to paint half your house then pay me more when I say “ well I can finish the work but I need more motivation “

I may be but I think it has to do with just the voting rights/power from the shares not necessarily the money value that he’s looking for but again I could be wrong

Kind-Pop-7205 2025-10-23 17:42

It's shocking how many people believe he doesn't care about money

hippotango 2025-10-23 17:59

The great thing about the share vote is that no matter which way it goes, the stock is going to tank. Proxy battles cause stocks to stay very artificially high, because shorts get called in to make sure those shares can be voted. If your shares are lent out, you can't vote them. I'll be loading puts right before the vote.

jjjjjunit 2025-10-23 19:00

Tony Stark is not modelled off Elon. The comic books have existed long before Elon became who he is.

Kdilla77 2025-10-23 19:01

Chippopotanuse 2025-10-23 19:08

atpplk 2025-10-23 19:19

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 19:21

Apparently you can't read. I did not saying paying them more will improve things. I said they need to have a stake of their own, meaning put their own money into the company so their interests don't conflict with investors. The problem today is execs are not incentivized to plan beyond the next income statement or their next bonus target.

TheBrianWeissman 2025-10-23 20:10

Why do people keep pretending like Optimus is a thing? It hasn't demonstrated an ability to do anything but shuffle awkwardly around and perform a pre-scripted, awkward dance routine. I await a single use case for one of these things that makes it more economical than using a human.

TheBrianWeissman 2025-10-23 20:12

This, exactly. Can't say that enough. Can we stop pretending that Optimus is actually a thing? It doesn't do anything but perform jerky animatronics.

They did just sell a bunch of Cyber Garbage Trucks to SpaceX, so this tracks.

Icy-person666 2025-10-23 20:43

Perhaps you ment Dr. Evil from Austin Powers, cartoonishly evil and inept. The inability to see himself in any realistic maner, more wrapped up in delusions than anything meaningful.

Key-Alternative5387 2025-10-23 21:38

This is a real problem. He's shown he can't be trusted with a robot army. Or a trillion dollars.

TerranOPZ 2025-10-23 21:41

You could do it by adding a small percentage of TSLS to your portfolio in addition to having VOO. I think you could set up an equation to see what percentage of your portfolio should be VOO and what percentage should be TSLS. You want the percentage of TSLS to match the percentage of Tesla in your overall portfolio.  If you are 1x shorting Tesla and 1x longing Tesla with the same percentage of your portfolio, it's the equivalent of holding cash. Your new portfolio wouldn't be fully invested which is a downside.

RidingtheRoad 2025-10-23 21:44

Musk is part of the elites. And you would go with an unstable, lying Nazi saluting man boy?

microtherion 2025-10-23 22:06

FlyingBishop 2025-10-24 00:18

Tesla makes lots of cars, if you really think they can't build a robot that can deliberately kill you I think you may be unpleasantly surprised in the future. Musk is not as much of an idiot as you think he is. He has some severe issues, both morally and in terms of competence, but he also is very competent at a lot of things.

silverud 2025-10-24 00:20

Not a weapons manufacturer yet.

FlyingBishop 2025-10-24 00:20

This is really shortsighted, I would definitely file this in "first they laugh at you..." for Musk. Putin laughed at Musk when he asked them to buy a rocket, now Musk is putting Putin's rocket sales out of business. Maybe that's in spite of Musk, but if so Musk seems very good at getting things built in spite of his poor leadership.

Yeah, I want the robots, rockets, and EVs, but he should _not_ have authority over a very real turn-key zombie army. Fuck that noise.

He’s not building a robot army, he’s building a valuation moat. The more absurd the vision sounds, the harder it is for competitors to play in the same psychological space.

Gallagger 2025-10-24 09:04

Do you remember the interview where he mentions the quote that "you're not really rich unless you can afford an army"? It's really nagging on him that he's still broke after all his hard work, so he needs this robot army asap.

Withnail2019 2025-10-24 09:10

They can't compete with China either.

capital_folly 2025-10-24 09:13

Musk’s framing is always psychological first, financial second. He knows if he makes the *price of belief* high enough, only true believers will stay in the game, and that concentration of conviction becomes its own moat.

Fuskeduske 2025-10-24 09:20

With ties to the US military and classified defence info (via SpaceX, Starlink etc.). What could go wrong?

Turbulent_Arrival413 2025-11-04 01:42

I don't think he actually wants the package. I think he's starting to realize he's in way over his head and wants an out. He's lost much of his image towards potential future buyers over the last years. Not only is he politically toxic (*Fascism isn't THAT popular*) to many his previously carefully maintained facade of competence is quickly fading (*multiple failures like the Cybertuck, Grok, X, etc.*) If he leaves Tesla because the board voted against the (*by all accounts ridiculous*) pay bump he asks, he can claim he was "ousted". That way he can perhaps maintain some of the "great (*but now thwarted*) man of history" illusion that could perhaps have been his legacy and isn't there when the Tesla bubble comes crashing down. He could even start a rival company which can, should he fail once more, blame Tesla for him "having to start over" This is just conjecture of course, but it wouldn't suprise me in the least.
