Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, spent the end of Tesla Inc.’s earnings call pleading with investors to ratify his upcoming $1 trillion pay package and blasting the shareholder advisory firms that have come out against the plan. Elon MuskPhotographer: Andrew Harnik/Getty Images “I just think that there needs to be enough voting control to give a strong influence,” Musk said, interrupting his CFO at the tail end of a 75-minute call. “But not not so much that I can’t be fired if I go insane.” It was classic Musk: a fiery ending to what had otherwise been a ho-hum earnings call talking about Tesla’s AI initiatives, Optimus robots and robotaxi service. Shareholders will vote on the pay package at Tesla’s annual meeting on Nov. 6 in Austin.  “I just don’t feel comfortable building a robot army here and then being ousted because of some asinine recommendations from ISS and Glass Lewis who have no freaking clue,” Musk said, referring to the proxy advisory services who he said aren’t voting in shareholders’ interests. Tesla’s CFO Vaibhav Taneja, with the final words before the call ended, argued that the board committee that assembled the proposed compensation package did so by ensuring Musk doesn’t get any benefit unless shareholders make substantial returns. He urged shareholders, more than once, to vote in favor of the plan.

gadhalund 2025-10-23 09:01

Id rather vote for pedro

S3er0i9ng0 2025-10-23 09:03

Didn’t he just recently want 300 million or something and that’s was insane.. now he wants 1 trillion lol. I don’t think Tesla even made that much profit over the life of the company.

BobbyKonker 2025-10-23 09:06

greed has no "off" switch

Stock_Put_5163 2025-10-23 09:07

Trust me, 70% of shareholders will vote yes to the comp package. Expect Tesla stocks to rally after AGM.

I-Pacer 2025-10-23 09:11

Well if you don’t feel comfortable doing *checks notes* your fucking job, then you know what your options are. Fuck off.

luv2block 2025-10-23 09:33

Just listening to the call now... I'll say this, he sounds like he's dailed back the drugs. He sounds less zonked out than on previous conference calls. Although he still sounds like he just woke up 5 minutes ago, but that's always how he sounds.

[deleted] 2025-10-23 09:33

To save humanity right Elmo? RIGHT?

dsmith422 2025-10-23 09:47

I forget who said it, but Elmo only wants to save humanity if he gets the credit for saving it. If someone else saves humanity, he will just call them a pedo and hire private investigators to try and dig up dirt on them to discredit them for stealing "his" glory.

Conscious-Bee-5691 2025-10-23 09:53

A good ceo always needs some Motivation for doing his job

gadhalund 2025-10-23 10:15

And a terrible CEO needs a trillion motivation(s)

Cane607 2025-10-23 10:19

I bet he would sabotage the person's attempt to save humanity purely out of spite. If he doesn't get credit no one gets credit. Pretty much his whole philosophy on life is the He would rather screw himself just to screw others then let anybody else be as or more successful than he is and take away the spotlight from him as a result.

Cane607 2025-10-23 10:20

The drugs are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his problems, The guys are complete train wreck of a human being. The drugs just make him worse than he already is.

Mansos91 2025-10-23 10:20

Teslas profit and its value have nothing to do with eachother Its value is based on lies grift and hype

Ok_Excitement725 2025-10-23 10:20

He’s already proven how easily swayed he is from focus on Tesla and SpaceX when he gets that desire to play Nazi and BFF to the orange taco man. I think he should be ousted personally, get fresh blood in there. The Elon effect of everything he says and does being a money maker is long over. The guy is just seen as an overpaid racist moron these days and brings little value to either brand in my opinion.

S3er0i9ng0 2025-10-23 10:50

Umm sure but where do you think those stock options come from? Even if he’s paid 100% in stock options that’s less stock the company can issue and raise money for w/e. Meanwhile Tesla sales are dropping like a rock. Typically ceo takes a pay cut when sales are down, not demand crazy compensation. Especially a ceo that’s costing sales.

Youngnathan2011 2025-10-23 11:22

Ah yes, he totally doesn’t care about the money, but will also do things that make it seem like its all he cares about

Outrageous_Koala5381 2025-10-23 11:24

it's ironic he says "incase I go insane". So befriending the orange man who supported ending subsidies for EVs which will damage Tesla and the EV cause he used to think was super important. Going on mad rants on Twitter? Supporting the far right activists in the UK? Telling X advertisers to "f off". "the salutes" etc, etc, that's not going insane? Offering to have Swift's babies? From a CEO point of view that's pretty insane!

Swimming-Marketing20 2025-10-23 11:28

But the CEOs lies are the only thing propping the "value" of that stock up. The moment he's gone sales might recover but Tesla will then be valued like other car companies

Big-Cap558 2025-10-23 11:57

And no limit

Mansos91 2025-10-23 12:09

Again the stock and the company for some reason are seperate entities Its irrational but so is everything musk has a finger in

jgoldrb48 2025-10-23 12:32

Eff selling cars, PAY THIS MAN! /s

Bi0H4z4rD667 2025-10-23 12:37

Same article, but free: https://archive.is/20251022231822/https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-22/musk-hijacks-tesla-earnings-call-to-pitch-1-trillion-pay-plan

MathW 2025-10-23 12:39

Off by a few orders of magnitude. Hes currently fighting to keep a $56 Billion pay package.

SupahCharged 2025-10-23 12:46

Which is why we need to tax mega billionaires out of existence. There is still plenty of room for growth and innovation without individuals becoming mega billionaires.

hashswag00 2025-10-23 12:54

If?

zedk47 2025-10-23 12:59

Do anyone believes he will reach any of the planned milestones?

GhostofBreadDragons 2025-10-23 13:11

The pay package is a tacit agreement to keep doing illegal things and pay him back for the cost of doing them. It’s for the behind the scenes stock manipulation, the backroom politics, the bribes necessary to do business in China and India, and all the lies to the stockholders.

meshreplacer 2025-10-23 13:15

Musk is CEO of 12 companies and also helps run DOGE in the background while designing robots. He does nothing but work not even time for sex so he has to send women tubes of semen so they can have his genius babies. He deserves the Trillion because cost of living has jumped significantly and we should reward the 21st century einstein/ceo.

PowerFarta 2025-10-23 13:16

Insane time to be pushing this considering how the next few quarters are gonna look. Absolutely insane. I'm constantly seeing ads for his pay package on reddit lol. Never seen the cars advertised but the dumbest most absurd pay package in corporate history gets lots of ad spend

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:43

$1T is basically the companies entire market cap, which is ridiculously hyperinflated.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:46

He's create a Catch-22 situation. He's the source of mythology that keeps investors pouring money in, but he's also the one whose scaring away customers due to his external activities. They can't win. It's the beginning of the end. Let's just sit and watch the death spiral build.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:48

The crazy part is even if he doesn't make the goals, his compensation levels are still very unreaonsable.

Risky_Stratego 2025-10-23 13:49

I’ll go out on a limb and say there will be much more growth and innovation if there was a cap. A ton of medical and technological advancements are buried or shelved constantly to help preserve other’s wealth or “market share”. Actively holding ourselves back for greed.

[deleted] 2025-10-23 13:52

"Like a Submarine Mr. Wayne , a submarine"

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:52

He doesn't care about the actual money, as in having the means to buy things. He cares about the number itself. His number must be bigger than everyone else's number so he can feel more important. It's the ruler his uses to measure his organ.

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:53

Which is why companies need to insist their execs have a big stake in the company themselves.

ArQ7777 2025-10-23 13:54

And Musk called people opposing him are "financial terrorists".

BringBackUsenet 2025-10-23 13:55

I don't believe he will but I do believe they'll find some creative accounting techniques to make it look like he did. Regardless the compensation even without this bonus money is already ridiculous enough, especially for a guy that is solely responsible for the huge drop in sales.

Possible-Feed-9019 2025-10-23 14:04

I do have one thing that Musk will never have. Enough.

johnny_51N5 2025-10-23 14:07

Idk guys, how about you all give me 1 Trillion Dollars? Whos with me ✋🏻

Nickeless 2025-10-23 14:08

No it hasn’t even made that much lifetime REVENUE. It hasn’t even made profits of $50B lifetime that it’s ALREADY paid him. It’s hilariously stupid and I can’t believe how long this company valuation can stay so inflated.

AreYouFilmingNow 2025-10-23 14:19

Can't blame him for wanting a cut of Tesla's great performance. I Denmark for example, in October alone, Tesla has already registered 55 cars (BEV market share of 0.7%) This is thanks to Elon.

veganparrot 2025-10-23 14:24

Is that hijacking? The investors are seemingly getting what they "want" which is more Musk.

borsTHEbarbarian 2025-10-23 14:39

He wanted his payment plan honored that we voted to give him. Twice.  It's only a big number because the stock rose a lot since 2018. Largely because of him.  I voted against the current plan but will fully accept the outcome of the vote and will fight for him to get paid if it passes and the results are delivered in accordance with the plan. Because that's what integrity is.

zedk47 2025-10-23 14:43

To be fair, drop in sales is also due to the fact that Teslas are just "another EV" now while they were innovative a few years back. Question would be what was the CEO doing all this time?

Advanced-Prototype 2025-10-23 14:49

Musk is 100% using Trump’s negotiation technique: make an outrageous opening offer then settle on something in between. Because even if you get close, you will come out pretty good.

WeUsedToBeACountry 2025-10-23 15:01

There's no incentive for him to stop until his told no by the board, which he controls.

chrisjdel 2025-10-23 15:09

Most researchers and innovators have a passion for what they do. Yeah they're not going to turn down the money, but insatiable greed is not their underlying motivation. It's not generally the technical people who get super rich in the first place - it's the useless corporate money guys like Elon Musk who take all the credit and hog all the profits for themselves. The multi multi billionaire is literally the most useless form of life on this planet. All they do is manipulate money to make more money, just for themselves, at everyone else's expense. The system works just as well ... better in fact ... run by people who are satisfied with merely being rich, and not obscenely, morbidly rich. The system should reward the geniuses who actually develop new technology rather than the nepo babies in suits who run companies.

First-Ad-7960 2025-10-23 15:14

A legitimate board would fire him tomorrow.

Secret-Revolution172 2025-10-23 15:14

It’s crazy to me how this stock is going up on failed earnings

dtyamada 2025-10-23 15:26

Are any of the planned milestones based on profits or cars sold? Cuz he probably won't hit those. If they're all just based on stock value, he'll hit a few I'm sure. He's great at pumping the stock with no fundamentals.

Dear_Smoke6964 2025-10-23 15:33

Much as I dislike I guy I wouldn't agree with you that he is going insane.  Trump got where he is today by being constantly in the news,  usually just for saying increasingly ridiculous shit.  Musk just playing the same game.  Their supporters are in a cult,  and they want to see their idols in the media all the time.

hotDamQc 2025-10-23 15:44

Who still buys these Tesla shit boxes?

NinjaN-SWE 2025-10-23 16:26

Which is why it's even structured like it is. The $1 trillion keeps the focus on that, it sounds absurd, you look it up and realize he needs to double the stock value for that to trigger, think it's overblown and vote yes. Without ever even checking what he gets even if he doesn't hit the targets...  I promise you that a non zero amount of investors think he gets nothing if he does poorly under this scheme and is therefore positive to it...

torokunai 2025-10-23 16:28

Ebitda and unit sales are also thresholds

affemannen 2025-10-23 16:40

.... How can Tesla pay him 1 trillion when it made 18 billion in profit last year?

ZeroSkribe 2025-10-23 16:42

And the rest of the team, and factory workers?

Chance_Airline_4861 2025-10-23 16:42

Imagine having a billion dollars, yeah that's slum change, trillionaires are where it's at. Greed has no bounds I guess

theaviationhistorian 2025-10-23 16:44

It's a mental disease they refuse to address. Have it under control and a big part of our societal problems could be managed.

EnvironmentalClue218 2025-10-23 16:49

He needs the money to control the robot army. That’s some delusional thinking. And the sycophants will be on board. Sad.

y4udothistome 2025-10-23 17:01

Down $25 this morning up 6 dollars now

theorizable 2025-10-23 17:04

Tesla might be the greatest wealth transfer of all time. But it might be necessary to fund Musk's other unprofitable ventures and election interfering.

ijbh2o 2025-10-23 17:08

CEO pitches 1 Trillion pay package to be able to tell dumb people that FSD is coming "Next Year" for the 20th year in a row!! Yes, I know it has only been about 11 years.

AWierzOne 2025-10-23 17:23

I cannot imagine the mental space you meme’s to occupy to believe that you need, much less deserve, that much money.

Urban_Retoxx 2025-10-23 17:40

im guessing you have a LOT more than Musk-rat. \* honor \* integrity \* moral values \* and let's not forget a fully functioning brain. This wasn’t just a bad call—it was a full-on brand erosion event. Musk turned what should’ve been a strategic update into a surreal plea for unchecked power and a trillion-dollar payday. 🤣😂 ...and they call us clowns? 🤣😂

RollinThundaga 2025-10-23 17:43

A legitimate board would have had him arrested for all of the liability they're all opened to with his stock manipulation. He's currently offloading Cybertrucks to Spacex to pad Tesla's revenue- literally subsidizing his private business off of taxpayer dollars.

ripetrichomes 2025-10-23 18:04

As a longtime Elon hater I was wondering what the catch was here

CloudyofThought 2025-10-23 18:08

Talk about sheeple.

Dangerous_Seaweed601 2025-10-23 19:08

LeaperLeperLemur 2025-10-23 20:00

It’s to build a robot army. I wish I was joking.

LeaperLeperLemur 2025-10-23 20:02

I feel like the headline is burying the lede here. It’s so he can maintain control of a robot army.

banelos 2025-10-23 20:20

Investing in Tesla is like paying into Musk’s pockets directly. What a scam

Dilapidated_girrafe 2025-10-23 20:38

Didn’t he recently try to push they the 50 billion dollar one to keep his interest in Tesla?

TheFoxsWeddingTarot 2025-10-23 20:43

And the stock is up $10.

RagingDemonsNoDQ 2025-10-24 00:54

Hungry-Biscotti-4296 2025-10-24 02:15

Even with everyone denying him the pay package, his options are gone. A large drop in the stock price would leave him with the greatest losses.

capital_folly 2025-10-24 09:15

Musk isn’t hijacking the call, he’s reframing it. Every time the narrative drifts toward numbers, he resets it around *control*. The $1 trillion isn’t compensation, it’s a psychological anchor. Investors debate the figure instead of the fundamentals.

mgarr93 2025-10-24 11:49

No it’s about 50 billion

AwesomeShikuwasa77 2025-10-24 13:39

Oh wow. Really wondering meanwhile why people stick with it.

EverythingMustGo95 2025-10-24 14:38

The problem here is that even if you sober up his fanboys they’d say “only 55 cars? Then he should only get 1/1000 of that pay package”. And they’d write him that check for $1,000,000,000.

EverythingMustGo95 2025-10-24 14:41

I think you mean his last pay package that was initially valued at $56b (before stock price became even more ridiculous). Perhaps it’s valued at $300b now? That’s b for billions, not millions.

Dry-Historian2300 2025-10-24 16:02

Anyone notice the similarity of one emotionally stunted man-baby demanding a $1 trillion dollar pay package and another one demanding $230 million from the DOJ by executive decision? Ahh, what we'd give for some good ole checks and balances.

Brokenthoughts2 2025-10-24 20:53

If you think trump got into the White House just by saying crazy shit on the news, you need a reality check my friend.

Dear_Smoke6964 2025-10-24 21:32

Clearly more to it than that but in the current,  media driven climate you can't underestimate how important it is.   I'll give you an example from here in the UK.  Our current PM seems to just try and get on with running the country without too much drama.  I'm not saying he succeeded at that but the media don't like it and have pretty much decided that Nigel Farage should be the next Prime Minister. Primarily because he generates a lot of headlines and clicks.  Just like Musk and Trump do.

Background_River_395 2025-10-24 23:53

Is doubling the value hard? Even Apple doubled in the last four years, right?

StevieG63 2025-10-25 01:01

That’s two thirds of the yearly interest on the national debt.

TraditionalGrade6207 2025-10-25 01:29

Yall do realize the pay package in shares today is worth $148.7 billion at current market cap. The only reason it would be 1 Trillion at payout is because one of the 10 year milestone is a 8.5T market cap. - Grow Tesla from $1.1T to $8.5T market cap - Deploy 1 million robotaxis commercially - Deliver 20 million vehicles annually - Ship 1 million Optimus robots - Hit $400B in adjusted EBITDA

dreaming2live 2025-10-25 12:45

Pay me so I can become Kleon the 1st. Otherwise no soup for you.

Excellent_Rule_2778 2025-10-27 00:58

People think Tesla should ditch Musk because he's losing them money, without realizing that Musk it the only reason Tesla is still 'worth' anything. I'm not preaching for Musk. But the reality is that Musk and Tesla are in bed together for better or worse. One cannot go without the other. In fact, I'd argue that Musk could survive being ousted by Tesla, but not the opposite.

Teanutt 2025-10-28 00:19

I don't think he wants to save humanity. I think he wants to own Mars and have a planet of slaves.
